First, I'm not a english speaker, so, I'm sorry, I don't know if I'm using the correct vocabulary. I'm finishing my studies and I'm in an internship company, I'm doing something stupid in the microbiology part of the laboratory because I like it and they let me experiment a little. I made a clean TSA and another contaminated one, in the contaminated one some colonies came out, so I put them back in a TSA to isolate them, in another TSA I put some strains that by morphology I thought fit and I wanted to compare them, but not only have I not planted well, but they have also grown a lot. I don't ..read more

Hello, my students are doing an antibiotic resistance lab with non pathogenic E. coli. The sensi-discs being used are Bacitracin, Penicillin, Sulfamethoxazole Trimethoprim, and control paper. Many are seeing a change around the control paper disc where the streaked colonies become puffy and opaque white. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I caught this fella from my mobile phone. It’s a standard agar. I collected samples for the microbiology lab and found this. We werent allowed to cultivate it or any other fungi further as the professor didn’t want to risk having his incubator contaminated with spores.

hi, microbiology student here!
Can someone give me a reason why one should do phylogenetic analysis of resistance genes when BLAST analysis already shows the closely related sequences? Pls help.

I started working on it during Covid.. and then one day I made it :D A realistic microbiology simulator where you can practice aseptic techniques; Culture, sub-culture bacteria; bacterial growth curves; Gram staining & other biochemical tests; Environment sampling and so much more!
The sim is very realistic where users prepare, perform and even cleanup after experiments. Users can do anything they want in an open world where they are free to deviate and experiment more than one way of performing experiments. Example forget to sterilize loop and get contamination or over heatfix the slide ..read more

Hey guys! I need to purify an integral membrane protein expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but I don't have a solid protocol :(. I wish there're some commercial toolkits available, but I didn't find any yet. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it :).
