With H5N1 Avian Flu silently spreading in US cattle, wastewater testing could be key. Studies suggest that wastewater monitoring is a viable method of monitoring certain animal pathogens including H5N1.

What are these dark floating particles?

Already half way through the 5gallon water jug and just noticed these dark rope like particles floating. Confirmed the entire 5gallon jug have these floating in the water. What are these? Do these cause illness or just visually unappealing? Facts: 1. Filled the water jug at a Walmart fill station last week. 2. Not sure when the water jug and reusable cap were last sanitized. I know, nasty. All jugs/caps have since been sanitized and are now on a regular schedule to be sanitized. 3. Water is capped at all times. 4. Stomach still cringing. submitted by /u/BrownMooseFace [visit reddit] [commen ..read more

Need help identifying these shots of this isolate we tried. And we're debating whether or not it's either Gloecapsa, Chlorococcus, or Microcystis (I think this is the most plausible one). Sampled from stagnant freshwater pond.

Question about E-test

So, let’s say that you find an interesting pathogen that is not commonly found in a blood culture. This particular organism is not common, therefore there isn’t much literature about it and there isn’t any particular article that defines the interpretation of the Mic that you get from doing an E-test. Eucast and the CLSI also do not have any information about the interpretation of the Mic. My question is the following: is there is a way to extrapolate the minimal bactericidal concentration from the minimal inhibitory concentration? submitted by /u/Maentus [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
