By Angela Bobo, America World Mission Trip Team Leader As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, my intention on this earth is to be Jesus’s hands and feet and live out the command, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). My first mission trip was in the Spring of 2018 to India. During this trip with my 14-year-old daughter, I fell in love with a different culture and children who do not live in or come from the most ideal situations. A desire was placed in my heart to love orphans and to ..read more

An Interview with America World Adoptive Mom, Althea Miller If you’ve been following the news, you know that the situation in Haiti continues to be devastating. Thank you to everyone who has answered our calls to sign petitions advocating for the children matched to families. A Beautiful Story of Surrender
America World Adoption

By Kylee Leonard, America World Adoptive Mom My husband, Andrew, and I both wanted to adopt before we got married. I watched my youth pastor and his wife adopt their daughter from the Congo and knew that I wanted to do that someday. Plus, we both love the picture of the Gospel that adoption is: God bringing us into His family through faith in Christ and calling us his sons and daughters. Adopting Micah We had researched several countries, not knowing that each had its own specifications for adoptive parents. We quickly realized that we didn’t qualify for some countries. India had been on our ..read more

In 2014, after finding out they were unable to have biological children, Brian and Lindsey McMakin started praying for God to take them beyond themselves and their own comfort. This prayer led Lindsey to go on a mission trip to China with America World, where she met their daughter, Ru. Brian and Lindsey brought Ru home in 2015. You can read that whole amazing adoption story in this blog post from 2015. What They’re Doing Now Ru is now in the 7th grade and an avid basketball fan. By Martha Young, Mission Team Leader COFFEE!!! Dark, rich, aromatic, hot coffee! This is what I have always associated with the country of Colombia because I truly enjoy coffee and find comfort when my hands are wrapped around a steaming mug. A year ago, I was asked to travel to this coffee country on a fact-finding trip concerning orphan care mission trip opportunities. I had no expectations, so I was open to totally experiencing the country. At the end of our short trip, I left eager to return with a team to serve in this beautiful country. What I discovered were amazing people eager to hel ..read more

During Holy Week, we reflect on our gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice for us and rejoice in the hope we have from his resurrection. We also celebrate the hope of new life as we unite children with loving, Christian families. What better way to show the love of Jesus, who has done so much for us? You may choose to perform acts of love and charity this week in appreciation for our Savior’s sacrifice. If so, we humbly ask you to consider a gift to America World as part of your remembrance. On this page, we describe the three ways your generosity helps our ministry. Thank you so much! “R ..read more

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you know by now that we love to showcase what our adoptees are doing – especially as many of them are reaching adulthood! One amazing example is Abigail Ward, whom Ken and Michelle Ward adopted through our China program in 2003 at 10 months old. She is currently finishing her senior year at the U.S. Naval Academy, and she is one of only 32 Americans selected to receive the Rhodes Scholarship for graduate study starting in 2024 at Oxford University. Ken says this scholarship is one of the many joys and triumphs he and Michelle have experienced since a ..read more

Helping Families Thrive in Ethiopia
America World Adoption

Although Ethiopia closed its doors to international adoption in 2018, the urgent need to protect children remains. Children still become orphans due to political unrest, disease, and extreme poverty. Therefore, we are committed to continuing our work in this beautiful country. Over ten years ago, we started the Ethiopia Family Empowerment Project in partnership with the local government in Addis Ababa. Our shared goal was to allow families in extreme poverty to keep their children in their homes rather than giving them up to live in the government orphanage. Just $45 a month provides one fami ..read more

Say “Yes” Afraid
America World Adoption
by Debby DeRosa

When we tell adoption stories, we have the luxury of showing how wonderfully everything worked out — after it has all worked out. But the decision to adopt can take a true leap of faith in the beginning. This was definitely the case for Cameron and Brooke Amigo, who adopted their son, Samuel, from India in 2019, even though they feared he might live only a few short years once he came home. Sammy had a heart condition called Holmes Heart, in which only half of his heart was able to function normally. It also impacted the function of his lungs. Several doctors advised the Amigos that Sammy mi ..read more
