Patching in Brazilian Cherry flooring where a closet used to stand. The rough flooring is 3/32 proud of the existing pre-finished. It was hard enough locating a few individual pieces, matching the color will be another challenge. I will post more on this when I trim them out but we installed all of these doors dead on a laser level line so that the trim will be perfect when installed. We are using quartersawn oak for the casing but budget called for using slightly more economical red oak veneered six panel doors. I will get a few more detailed pictures but you can see the pre-existing antique oak molding goes right through our new drywall. I have noticed as I have started dealing with customers my own age–unfortunately I fall into this cohort–that ghosting is on the rise. Look, I get it. When some guy or girl is getting to clingy after a first date and you need to excise them from your life, you ghost them. It’s gutless, but it works and all i ..read more

Working with Pressure Treated sucks. Its gross, wet, and terribly low quality. I think they cull the lumber that most closely resembles hockey sticks and select that for pressure treating. It’s warped, cupped, twisted, and full of knots. But it is cheap. This family is planning on moving in a year or two. From a value standpoint, spending the extra 15k for a brand new composite or pvc deck, doesnt make sense. They won’t see that return in the sale price of the home. So for this job it was just a rehab. Nee railings and decking, and a few new stringers ..read more
