Sorry if this isn’t allowed I just don’t know what to make of what’s going on behind my kitchen cabinets. A few inches to the left of those cuts is a stud. I just wanted to install an outlet for an over the range, then I found this BS. What are the chances I really screw something up by cutting out the spot for the outlet there? submitted by /u/theFootballcream [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Just joined my local 909 Union into an apprenticeship program. Just looking for recommendations on things like good steel toe boots, framing hammers, etc. What brands should I look for/stay away from? The company I’m joining does a lot of heavy highway/heavy civil work. Lots of bridge building, freeway expansion, large retaining walls, etc. I have some money to spend, but don’t want to break the bank or go to cheap. Any advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/danezamo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey all, wondering if I could get some assistance or guidance. I have a ton of lumber (oak, pine, cedar, etc) that have been sitting in my basement for a few years, stored properly, treated and in good condition that I'm looking to sell and need some help pricing everything out. All of the boards are of various shapes and sizes, i.e 2x4x8, 6x6x16 etc. but I also have some pieces like .75 x 9.25 x 62" that I cannot find on like home depot or loews to accurately price. I have a friend who is interested in buying the boards and have sold a few to but I also feel like he has been lowballing me la ..read more

So, I have a house from 1930’s back porch is built above the old coal cellar. Currently it is some cut up plywood that was painted and then screwed or nailed to the beams of the coal cellar. It’s leaking when heavy rain hits. I got Memorial Day week off so I’m going to get some plywood and take the painted crap off and redo it. What kind of plywood would be best and what should I spray/roll on it to make it waterproof, also should I be using nails or screws for this? My plans are Severe weather treated pine 4x8 sheets (cut to fit) some exterior paint (2-3 layers) with a waterproof polyurethan ..read more

This is for my kitchen island cabinets. I can nail it normally but I think the nail holes will be visible. Should I just glue it to the cabinets? Is there special wood filler to match the color? Thanks submitted by /u/trowdatawhey [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Gluing 12”x15” sheet of Velcro to MDF—best method?

I need to glue a 12”x15” sheet of Velcro to MDF, and am looking for the best options. It will be used to hold lightweight electronics like cable modems, routers, and slightly heavier things. Planning on buying Velcro without self-adhesive glue, so I need something that will bond MDF to nylon. Do I need to prime and paint the MDF? Or just use titebond? Contact cement? What other options are worth discussing? submitted by /u/PetesGuide [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
