The littlest boy that started my cake making hobby is already 10 years old!! How can a decade fly by so fast?!? And not only that, but he also now has a third sibling, a little brother that he wished for on his birthday last year (hopefully his wish is for something else this year, lol)! Said little brother is now already 100 days old! We decided to have a joint party for the two boys since, their celebrations were only a week apart.  Army Tank Dessert Table When I asked the big boy what theme he wanted for his party this year, he immediately said TANKS! He is obsessed with World of Tanks g ..read more

You know how everyone says Frozen never dies? It's cuz the first Frozen movie from 2013 was so popular that people were still having Frozen-themed parties years after its release! (Even my girls did!) Well, with the upcoming Frozen II movie, set to be released here on November 21st, Frozen as a birthday theme is making a comeback (not that it ever really died down). The new movie seems a little darker than the first, which makes sense cuz the kids who enjoyed the first movie have now grown older and can handle a more mature plot, kinda like how the Harry Potter series progressed.  Frozen Cas ..read more

Super Mummy Cake

Mommies are super. Not that I want to toot my own horn, but we do do almost everything for the family, and we do it without complaint, juggling the kids' schedules, shopping for groceries, cooking, cleaning, teaching to name a few things, and we are never given the day off nor can we afford to be sick! It's rare that we get to do something for ourselves, like get our hair done, go for a spa day, or simply just kick back and watch Netflix or take a nice long nap!  So, when a fellow super mummy's birthday came rolling around, her husband wanted to surprise her with a special birthday cake.  Su ..read more

I like to think that I'm pretty up to speed with the latest cartoons out there, but every now and then, I get a request do something in a cartoon theme that I've never heard of. This was the case for these One Punch Man cookies! I was stressing about making them cuz I find human characters very hard to do in edible form.  One Punch Man Cookies These cookies were a big boy turning 12 years old. I had made him a Roblox birthday cake for his 10th birthday a couple years ago, but now that he's older, he's into more "adult" cartoons. Too bad it's not Pokémon or Mickey Mouse anymore! Lol.  Anyw ..read more

A fellow mommy friend was celebrating her birthday, after just having had her second daughter a month ago. Her husband wanted to surprise her with something special, and it had to be my all time best selling devil's food cake! He shared that last year, when I wasn't in town to make her birthday cake, they were disappointed by the one they ordered from somewhere else! I am glad to be back in town to bake for their family this year. Family Cake So, the hubby's brief was something family themed, devil's food cake, and with the words "Super Mummy Dawn". I asked what the birthday gal's fave colour ..read more

Since moving back to the tropics, I haven't really re-started the baking engine, what with settling into a new home and juggling the newest little dude and all. But, I can't say no to help out a friend. I was surprised to find that she was 37+ weeks preggers when we came back into town! Fortunately, we were able to catch up over lunch before she gave birth the very next day!  Chocolate Cake Cubes Time really has gone quickly cuz my friend's new little girl is already turning a month old! So when she asked if I could make cake pops for her 1st month favour boxes, I had to say yes! Chinese tra ..read more

Sooooo we are back to the heat and humidity of the tropics. I am so missing the cool and dry weather in Vancouver! And, not only did we move back, but we also moved to a new place! So it's kinda been non-stop packing and unpacking since August! And, because I'm itching to bake, and because my high school principal used to say "if you want something done, give it to a busy person," I committed to a cake order for one of my baking partners, for an event that was only 4 days after we moved into our new home! Talk about busy. Little Mermaid Macaron Tower Cake The cake is 3 layers of decadent d ..read more

My nephew was turning 5 and he was celebrating this milestone with a Transformers birthday party. This kid usually brings out his fave Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee Transformers with him wherever he goes. And I'm not talking about those small action-figures. He brings full-sized 12" toys!  Optimus Prime cake & cookies I asked him if he prefers Optimus or Bumble Bee or both and he kept chanting Optimus! Optimus! So, that's what I made for his party: an Optimus Prime birthday cake and cookies! The cake is two tiers of vanilla funfetti cake, with layers of yummy vanilla Swiss meringue but ..read more

Dad is turning 65 years old. 65!! And since I'm 28 years behind him, man, I'm old too. Reality check! sob. sob. Since we settled on a party date with only 2 weeks lead time, at first, it was a mad scramble to plan dad's shindig. Where are we gonna have it? What kinda party is it gonna be? Who are we gonna invite? So my sisters and mom and I were in a panic, calling people up. Trying to secure a venue. Checking people's availability. In the end, dad said that he just wants a celebration with the fam-jam. That made things a lot easier, and took the pressure off pulling off a fancy party! Korean ..read more
