My 3rd grade daughter had been in a microschool (6 other kids) for 4 years, we recently decided that home is the better choice. It’s been 2 weeks and it’s been going so well (we all love it!) but almost every evening this week the meltdowns/outbursts/disrespect have been BEYOND! Is there an emotional transition period from school to homeschool? I’m grasping at straws here trying to find out what’s going on. I’ve tried to make sure she’s still socializing and chatting with her friends so I don’t think it’s from that lack of.

Hi guys. I’m a little behind on Acellus and I’m scared I won’t be able to graduate. I’m also in a public School as a 10th grader, I have completed like 4 out of 7 so now I just have 3 left and only one class is in 9th grade. Am I still able to graduate? I only take elective classes in real life public school. Please give advice.. should I move to another online school? I feel like it’s too late. Edgenuity is what I did as homeschool before I was moved.

I’m about to start the Native American Unit from core knowledge with my kindergartener. Are there any age appropriate picture books you would recommended? We prefer secular and nothing offensive. Thanks so much!

Reading is one of the most important things we could possibly teach our children to do well (and to love). I want to educate myself on the process as thoroughly as possible. What resources did you use?Did it simultaneously teach you HOW to teach it?
I am new to this world so I don't know if some resources are more teacher friendly or whether you need to do your own homework before diving in with your child.
Thank you!

Hello, I'm just wondering if any of you take spring break, or not. I wasn't planning on it, as we have been loosely schooling/unschooling for a few weeks since I pulled my kid from public. We have been focusing on core reading, writing/grammer and math with some STEM thrown in. However, my kid learned today that his homeschooled cousins get spring break, and I'm just kind of in a funk and exhausted from life outside of parenting and school. We will be taking summer off, except for summer reading, so I wasn't planning on a break now. I think maybe we need one though.
So, if you take spring bre ..read more

I’m heavily considering homeschooling my son. He’s on the spectrum and school has been a nightmare since kindergarten. I could go on and on but what it comes down to is I think he is just constantly overwhelmed/overstimulated which leads to unregulated behavior.
He was diagnosed as level 1. The other aspect of this is that he is brilliant: his grades are all high 90s. He loves learning. BUT he has been placed in special ed with a 1:1 aide because of behavioral issues. This has caused a separate set of problems because he’s stuck in a cycle of sort of being under a microscope all day which lea ..read more

I noticed a lot of parents struggle to teach their kids grammar. I never really did, mine started writing perfectly almost at once, and I think I figured out why.
Both learned to read pretty early, and they LOVED it, could spend hours and hours deep in a 600-page book at age 6, would beg me to go to the library every few days. And I guess that because they read so much, they didn't have to THINK about learning how to write the words, they just did. So it really saved a lot of effort and unpleasantness for all of us.
Maybe this can help other people too. I hope so !
EDIT: I have no idea how to ..read more

We will hopefully be taking over a kinship situation very soon. Our soon to be kiddo is a sophomore who is significantly behind in school. I'm completely brand new to this, so I'm not sure what information is necessary so I'll share everything I can think of?
Kiddo is behind in credits. Does pretty well with reading and writing, but has struggled with math since early elementary. In previous discussions, kiddo has told me that a diploma is the goal, not some kind of equivalent. There is also a major social anxiety issue, which has contributed a lot to school issues. Kiddo has expressed a desi ..read more

My almost 7-year-old is very, very artistic. I'd love a more art-based program. We do well with nature-based ones, but I want to emphasize art for her. I didn't see much in the way of suggestions on my first reddit search.

Hi everyone! I need to provide a bit of background so it makes sense.
We pulled our kids early March, and are homeschooling to catch them up before private school in August. But, now we are considering homeschooling long term.
My husband works in business and mentioned that, across the board, they are noticing that the generation below us (in their 20s) does not know how to have conversations well. This is something that is widely known in the business world, and isn’t just him noticing it. He mentioned them not knowing how to read a room or notice social cues, do not know how to be interview ..read more
