I have a couple speaking opportunities coming up. I'm looking to record these performances and clip them out for social. How are you doing this? I've thought about using an 'owl' camera to do motion tracking. submitted by /u/prothirteen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Very nervous (already)

I have an upcoming speech this Friday and I'm freaking out internally right now. I practice and recite my speech about 4-5 times a day without looking at the script or notes. And we (as a group) practiced our upcoming performance. While I'm on stage, I get so nervous. Rapid heartbeat, hands and knees shaking and awkward eye contact. I always tell to myself "you don't look as nervous as you feel." this is something I heard from YouTube and I'm just inserting that to my brain. sorry just need to vent, I'm just so nervous. submitted by /u/Prrrrtprrrrt [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do you practice speaking with eloquence and precision?

I am a professional Master of Ceremonies for professional events and therefore, speaking in front of crowds is not a problem for me. Are any of you also professional speakers or emcees and what advice would you give to someone trying to speak with precision and eloquence? I feel like my speech is very "casual", "lazy" and lacks "formal register" if I go off script. When I practice speaking to people, it is also not exactly the best practice for "precision speaking" and "formal speaking" because it is easy to get back to being a lazy speaker. Have any of you tried sharpening speaking skills as ..read more

Hi all, I have a new presentation coming up for my graduation ceremony that I have no idea how to go about. I have presented in class numerous times with powerpoint slides, often simply knowing the content from doing research. I have been a part of toastmasters for a few years and generally feel comfortable with public speaking. However, this speech is entirely different because I had to write out my entire speech and have it vetted by the graduation committee. Therefore, I think they’re expecting me to stay on script which is very different from the typical improv say-as-I-go approach I have ..read more

I had to do a speech this Monday in my speech class and what happened is long before I even got to class, I was nervous - which is typical - and after I got to class, and my classmates presented one by one, I finally got up. Now, this usually does not happen as this wasn’t my first time, I presented a couple of times previously - even when I was nervous - and everything went well, but this time for some reason I felt like I was having a heightened adrenaline response - don’t know if that makes sense - hands felt like they were going numb, throat went dry, and I asked the professor if I could ..read more
