Expecting the Unexpected

So, here it is: the news. I was going to wait a bit longer to discuss it because it’s very early days right now, but what the hell, I want to talk about my life on this blog. And this is kinda huge. I am pregnant. Yep. I have known for about three weeks now and I went for my first ultrasound today. I have spent this morning being poked and prodded with needles and various instruments, but I finally have my very first picture of the baby. I did get some surprising (and slightly disappointing news) – it looks like the baby is much younger than we expected. Around 6 1/2 weeks instead of 9 1/2. Th ..read more

To Better Or To Enjoy

“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” – E.B. White This quote is one that I especially relate to. When I first read it, I saw a piece of myself reflected in the words, a piece of myself I’d never been able to pinpoint before. In fact, it’s an issue that I run into almost constantly, and sometimes it’s even an excuse I use to not do the things I have promised myself I would. Every ..read more

My Favourite Time of Year
The Book Geek

Late Summer leading into early Autumn (or as you Americans say – Fall) is my favourite time of the year. It’s the time when I feel most inspired, somewhat happy, and somewhat melancholy too. But it’s not a typical kind of sadness – it’s more bittersweet, like nostalgia or New Year’s Eve. There’s this sense that you’re letting go of something, but getting something equally wonderful. I’m just in one of those moods, I guess. I have some news that I want to share on this blog, but I don’t want anyone else to find it because I’m not telling anyone just yet. Basically, that’s all I can say. I love ..read more

Airs and Graces

On Saturday night, me and my boyfriend went out to dinner for his birthday at a place in Beverly Hills called Bazaar. As you would expect from the location, it’s pretty damn hoity toity. Though I think the atmosphere is more welcoming and friendly than other equivalents in LA, like Melisse. We both got new spins on classic cocktails – him a Salt Air Margarita and me a Magic Mojito. Mine was particularly impressive because it was made with candy floss (cotton candy) and they pour the mojito over it and lots of steam comes out. It tasted pretty good, but by far the best thing was watching them m ..read more

Faith, Belief & Truth

When I was a young child, I believed in God. It was not something I had pondered for long hours, or considered, it was just a certainty delivered to me from the mouth of my mum. My mum told me the sun would rise every morning – I believed her (and it did). My mum told me Santa Claus leaves presents once a year – I believed her (and it seemed he did). My mum told me God exists – and I believed her. We were not, however, a religious family in the way many Americans are religious families. The only time I ever went to church was if someone was getting married, being baptized, or had died. We didn ..read more

Looky, looky, what I did. You can’t see from the picture but I also have a laptop cover that matches the pattern too. I absolutely love this pretty pink space design and I’ve wanted to cover my keyboard with stickers for a while now. It was a bit of a pain in the ass to place each individual sticker and line it up with the keys correctly (especially those tiny function keys!) but I was thrilled with it when I’d done. *happy sigh ..read more

Dear Fat People

Many people have seen the video by now. Nicole Arbour’s rant at “fat people”. The responses have, predictably, been many – both from those who were offended by the video calling out overweight people and saying fat shaming doesn’t exist, and by those who actually kind of agree with Arbour. I have opinions on this and have since before Ms Arbour felt the need to make the video. I guess it’s hard for me to articulate everything I feel about the issue because I think it has many sides and depends on a certain subjectivity. But now seems like a good time to try. Firstly – let’s talk about the vide ..read more

All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Inspired by Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias’ single – To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before – I decided to make a post about the boys/men throughout my life, not including my current boyfriend. I’m not actually going to say I “loved” them, because I don’t think I’ve been in love before my current relationship, but everyone who’s ever had a crush knows how powerful and crushing they can be. Also, there are many boys I have dated or had relationships with who never really did it for me – this is not a post about them. To summarize, this is about every guy who I have obsessed over, gone home and th ..read more

Liar, Liar

What’s the biggest, craziest lie you ever told? I’m not sure what I’m about to tell you is the worst lie I have ever told, or the most damaging, or the one with the longest lasting effects – in fact, it really isn’t – but it is the weirdest, the most bizarre, and the most inventive. It was a lie I told in high school when I must have been about fourteen-ish and no, I didn’t get away with it. I was a very emotional and angsty teen. I’m serious. I was depressed almost 24/7, a target of pretty much every bully or remotely vindictive person in my school, and I would have screaming arguments with m ..read more

So I spent this weekend in San Jose for the Wizard World Comic Con. Me and Jay flew up to the Bay area on Friday and ate Italian at the Westin where we were staying. On Saturday, the real fun began! I’ve been to many of these types of conventions over the years. From the smaller events in Manchester, to the heaving London Comic Con, to full weekend events (SFX Weekender). They’re so much fun. I love the costumes, the merchandise, the atmosphere and, of course, the film and TV actors who turn up to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Most of all, though, I love how it’s pretty impossible to ..read more
