19th to 22nd April 2024 We went to Castlerigg Hall four times last year.  We probably won't go that many times this year  but it has definitley become one of our favourite sites, with pitch 24 one of our favourite pitches anywhere. Friday The journey could easily have been much worse.  We hit traffic around Lancatser on the M6 and it turned out to be an overturned caravan!  It must have just happened because the police hadn't arrived and it didn't hold us up much but the tailbacks later will have been horrendous.  No idea what caused it.  A badly loaded cara ..read more

15th to 18th March 2024 Our first real trip of the year, the last one was really just to make sure the caravan was ok after the winter.  Destination - the Coniston CAMC site. Friday Earliest arrival time her is 10am but we didn't get close to that.  We didn't leave home until 9.30 and arrived just before midday. We have had many arguments over the years about pitch selection here, but not today.  First day open, it was almost empty when we arrived and we chose pitch no. 64 which we think is just about the best pitch on the site, so a really good start. Lots of interest i ..read more

1st to 3rd March 2024 Back on the road after a three month break, this was really just a fact finding trip to see if the caravan had survived the winter.  Outside we know it would be ok because it has just been serviced and washed, but inside... Friday Bay View is only a short drive from our storage site, so perfect for a first trip of the year.  We arrived dead on 1pm and didn't need to use the mover after an excellent display of reversing from D. Our allocated pitch was a bit further than we would have liked from the facilites, but ok.  We were pleased to see a new fac ..read more

6th to 9th October 2023 Our fourth visit of the year to Castlerigg Hall.  We can't get enough of this site or Keswick at the moment, it is rivalling Kendal CAMC as our most vistited site in recent times.  We have been concentrating on north lakes this year as we have done pretty much everything there is to do in the south. Friday A quirk in the online booking system which means we can book our favourite pitch no. 24 pretty much anytime so no nasty surprises on arrival, apart from the weather.  It's been a while since we have had to set up in the rain... we got soaked! The ..read more

22nd to 24th September For the first time ever, a solo trip for D.  J away with her mum so the perfect opportunity for D to try a solo trip, to the Coniston CAMC site.  This blog is pure D! Friday Earliest arrive time here is 10am, which is exactly when I dropped J off at Southport station. I still managed to get here quite early and got dream pitch no. 64.  Pitch selection has been a problem here in the past but not this time.  As they checked me in I kicked myself for not booking a pitch for one person but didn't say anything because I'd already paid in full.  It wo ..read more

4th to 7th August 2023 Our third visit of the year to Castlerigg Hall.  We like this site and we like Keswick at the moment. Friday We arrived aound 1.30 and were shown to pitch no. 24 by the warden.  We think this is just about the best pitch on the site, tucked away in a quiet corner with a nice view of Keswick and Bassenthwaite in the distance. As is customary here we walked down the hill into Keswick, which was much busier than usual.  We can usually only get in to Castlerigg Hall out of season.  Best pubs are the Wainwright and the Dog and Gun and we managed ..read more

16th to 19th June 2023 First new site of the year - Barnard Castle in County Durham.  We have been meaning to visit Barnard Castle for a long time but something has always stopped us.  It's quite a long journey. Friday A traditional Friday start to a three night trip and we timed the journey just right, arriving dead on the earliest arrival time of 1pm.  Of course, there was a queue, but it didn't take long to get through and we drove around the site watching people setting up on what had been our first choice pitches based on Google Earth!  The following day we s ..read more

2nd to 4th June 2023 Second visit of the year to the Kendal CAMC site which is firmly established as one of our favourites. Friday A bit of traffic on the M6 meant we didn't arrive until almost 1.30.  We knew the site would be pretty full and we weren't hopeful of getting a good pitch but we needn't have worried.  The key to pitch 22 was hanging on the wall in reception when we got there and we headed straight for it.  Not quite as good as pitch 21 but pretty good compared to almost any other pitch on the site.  The warden as he did his rounds complimented us on our ..read more

12th to 15th May 2023 Second trip of the year to Castlerigg Hall, just outside Keswick.  We are trying to go north as much as possible this year. Friday we arrived shortly after 1pm and fell foul of what must be a new policy, whereby a warden escorts you to your pitch.  We drove straight to pitch 24 with the warden in hot pursuit!  We apologized profusely.  Something to do with traffic management apparently. Pitch 24 is a pretty good pitch, tucked away in a corner with excellent views of Keswick and Bassenthwaite in  the distance. As usual, we walked down the hill i ..read more
