Galwegian’s defeat sends Dolphin down to AIL Division 2C
Dolphin RFC
by Ger Hodkinson

Dolphin started strongly, assisted by a strong wind and were unlucky not to register an early score, being held up over the line twice in the opening 6 or 7 minutes.  Once Galwegians settled into the game, they showed how dangerous they could be and they opened the scoring with a converted try. Timmy Phelan showed his illusive running skills and reduced the deficit to 5-7 after 13 minutes, however two straight forward penalties gave the visitors a 5-13 half time lead. With the wind at their backs, it was once again the visitors who scored two more tries and at 5-25, people thought Dolph ..read more

John Fitzgerald led his team out for the 32nd time, but the others gave him a 10 second start to recognise his 100th Dolphin AIL appearance. John joined Dolphin in 2013 making the decision to concentrate on rugby, having previously played for the Cork Minor Hurlers. His leadership qualities were recognised immediately and in his 2nd season became Club Captain, and again two years later. This season he became the first player in nearly 100 years to captain the club for three seasons. His on field captaincy in 2014-15 was delayed until 3rd January because of injury. Unfortunately in 2016-17 he w ..read more

Dolphin took another step towards retaining Division 2B status with a comprehensive home victory on Saturday. It was the visitors who with a strong wind at their back started very strongly. They shocked Dolphin with a converted try, a penalty, then an unconverted try in the opening 20 mins. A converted try from Craig O’Connell with the extras from Daryl Foley reduced the gap to 7-15, keeping Dolphin in touching distance. Enniscorthy got a 3rd try to make it 7-20, Dolphin kept plugging away, a series of penalties led to a Enniscorthy YC. Dolphin crossed the line through Cam O’Shaughnessy, once ..read more
