Sparked by a memorable Ryan Hutler hat-trick and 19 points from Pat Pellegrini Coventry claimed an entertaining 54-19 win over old rivals Bedford. Alex Rae’s team scored eight tries in total, six of which came in a scintillating point-per-minute second half. In the process Cov extended their winning sequence to seven games and strengthened their claims for a top-two finish while the Blues’ winless run at the Butts Park Arena now extends to 16 years. A long spell of early pressure from the visitors ended when a thumping Will Wand tackle forced a turnover. And it was Cov who were first on the sc ..read more

Will Chudley has decided to bring the curtain down on his lengthy and storied rugby career at the end of the current campaign. The 36-year-old scrum-half joined Coventry following the demise of Worcester in the autumn of 2022 and has since made a colossal impact on what has become his last club. Despite to date playing only 39 games for the blue-and-whites, Chudley has in that time won a Supporters’ Club player-of-the-year award and arguably was the key onfield figure in Cov achieving their highest league finish in the professional era. Suva Ma’asi and Adam Nicol return to Coventry’s front row for Sunday’s Championship visit to Nottingham (3pm kick off). Former Jersey Reds tight head Nicol, who proved an influential figure when Cov triumphed on a heavy pitch at Doncaster last month, may well again play a key role for Alex Rae’s team if expected underfoot conditions arise. Hooker Ma’asi has caught the eye when emerging as a replacement in recent weeks following a lengthy injury absence and he gets a first start since the autumn. This allows club captain Jordon Poole to rotate to the bench following a hectic season in which he ..read more

Coventry Rugby News

Coventry Rugby boss Alex Rae says his side are prepared for an old-style battle in the mud when they visit Nottingham on Sunday afternoon. The round 19 Championship clash takes place at the Archers’ Lady Bay home which – while not quite as badly hit as Worcestershire Cricket’s New Road – has been badly flooded during the course of this wettest of all winters. And following more prolonged spells of heavy rain during March and April, Rae is expecting Saturday’s Grand National not to be the only sporting event taking place on heavy ground this weekend. “We’re expecting to find a really heavy pitc ..read more

Coventry Rugby head coach Alex Rae says his team are primed for a big performance when they appear under Friday night lights for the first time this season tomorrow. Cov seek to extend their fine run of recent form to five consecutive wins when they face a Cambridge side who pushed them very hard before the blue-and-whites eventually emerged with a 19-33 success shortly before Christmas. “We’re in a good spot at the moment, the boys are training really well and that’s transferring on to the field,” Rae said. “Cambridge will be challenging as they’re finding their feet in the Championship, brin ..read more
