As always, there is a lot of work to be done at The Utilita over the summer to keep the site in top condition, and we’re putting the call out for a Volunteer Army to support us on the following dates. We have a huge list to get through and many hands make light work! Any time you can spare on the day would be much appreciated – we start at 10:00 and finish at 14:00, but even if you can only do half an hour you’ll make a difference. Blackheath Rugby is thrilled to announce the signing of Josh Smart, a back-row forward who joins us from London Irish.  James Shanahan, Director of Rugby, says “Josh Smart is an abrasive backrower, who comes from the Championship side Ampthill, via London Irish. He was highly recommend by Ross McMillian (ex London Irish coach, now Exeter Chiefs) who I worked with at Cambridge Uni and Club. Josh has got the profile of the players we are looking for — he still wants to play a good standard of rugby, but also want to have a career. I’m looking forward to working him!” Russell Ticehurst, Mana ..read more

At the final home game of the season, Rory O’Sullivan, President of the Club, gave out special awards to two worthy recipients. The first award was presented to David Tickner — the Supporter Volunteer of the Year. During the presentation Rory said “Dave is a someone who we only have to ask once and he gets it done. He quietly works in the background, fixing things for us, utilising his professional trade skills for the benefit of the Club. He’s like a mouse: he is there somewhere in the buildings, but you don’t necessarily see him sorting things out. We thank him for all the very good work he ..read more
