McLaren boss Andrea Stella is hoping that the next set of upgrades on the MCL38 should result in a "decent" step forward and one that should certainly be noticeable in terms of their performance on track. However he also downplayed expectations and insisted that the new package for Miami would not have the same level of dramatic improvement as last year's new parts brought in at Austria that completely turned the team's fortunes around. Until that stage, McLaren's 2023 campaign had been painful to watch. But almost overnight they became one of the cars to beat, and almost a match for the domin ..read more

Alonso: F1 Sprint weekends now ‘a game of who runs less’
F1i - F1 news, reports and results
by Phillip van Osten
10h ago
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso believes that Formula 1’s revised Sprint format prioritizes tyre conservation, leading to a game of “who runs less” in Friday’s single practice session. Under the Sprint schedule, F1 teams have just one practice session before jumping into sprint qualifying which is followed on Saturday by the sprint race itself. This limited time forces teams to fast-track their set-up work, with a focus on long runs. However, the shift in strategy also stems from the fact that this year, teams receive one fewer set of tyres compared to standard races – or 12 sets versus 13. The ..read more

The much-debated revision of Formula 1's points system has been pushed back, with the FIA's F1 Commission opting to analyze it further before making a decision. This move, reportedly championed by Formula One Management (FOM), aims to create a more engaging experience for fans by increasing the frequency with which backmarker teams score points, thus energizing the lower midfield battle. Currently, teams outside the top 10 often struggle to break into the points, potentially leading ..read more
