Season in Review: Jared Bynum
Friar Basketball
by Kevin Farrahar

Jared Bynum had a healthy list of suitors once he decided to transfer following a strong freshman season at St. Joseph’s. After averaging over 11 points, four assists and three rebounds, Bynum narrowed his list of potential destinations to Providence, Seton Hall, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Butler, Clemson, and Notre Dame. The Friars eventually won out, and had a redshirt season to groom Bynum while he sat out during the 2019-20 campaign. Expectations had been high for Bynum prior to him taking to the floor this past season. When the 2019-20 season started to go sideways we began h ..read more

Season in Review: Noah Horchler
Friar Basketball
by Kevin Farrahar

In an otherwise disappointing season for Providence, the emergence of Noah Horchler (and his subsequent announcement in late March that he would be returning to PC next season) provided a lift for the Friars. After averaging 24 minutes per game through the first three contests of the season, Horchler was a bit player until a February resurgence that saw him average 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 44% from 3-point land over the final nine games of the season. It took most of the season, and an injury to Jimmy Nichols, for Horchler to find consistent minutes, but he never looked bac ..read more

Digging in on Al Durham
Friar Basketball

News of Al Durham’s transfer from Indiana to Providence came days prior to David Duke’s announcement that he would forego his senior season at PC to head for the NBA Draft. Suddenly, the 6’4, 175 pound guard from Georgia was elevated from nice piece to critical component of the 2021-22 Friars. The Providence athletic department made the news official on Tuesday. The Friar Podcast is a Must Listen
Friar Basketball
by Kevin Farrahar

Creating something innovative can be quite the challenge in the oversaturated world of college basketball coverage, yet that’s just what Bill Ricci did this year when he started The Friar Podcast. Ricci, a Providence native and class of 2014 PC graduate, has found a way to turn his passion for the Friars into something completely unique. Ricci has provided a forum for former Friar players, current media, and those working in the athletic department to share their stories about what Providence’s program has meant to them. What I love most about his podcast is how much I’ve learned about men lik ..read more

Noah Horchler Emerging for the Friars
Friar Basketball
by Kevin Farrahar
3y ago
There were times this season in which it looked as though Noah Horchler might fall out of Ed Cooley’s rotation completely. The transfer from North Florida came to Providence with relatively high expectations after averaging 16 points and over nine rebounds a game during the 2018-19 season, but he saw sporadic minutes through the first two months of the season. Horchler has been Providence’s best rebounder this year (he grabbed 26 boards in the first three games of the season), but looked like a defensive liability early, which limited his playing time. After playing 22+ minutes through th ..read more
