A contemplative installation marks pain and resistance. At the southwest corner of Steveston Community Park, in the seaside village of Steveston, is a quiet, slightly sunken garden space that inspires contemplation. Pathways guide you to a bench carved from stone, and towards a large boulder, cleaved in two, embedded with round bronze markers and place names of locations across the province and beyond. Shipyards Commons opened in July 2019, and has been a celebrated destination for both North Vancouver and the entire region since. To catch some ice before it melts, a group of Hapsters ventured out to the North Shore for a (free if bring your own) skate.   Designed with multi-purpose in mind, Shipyards Commons can accommodate large concerts, major festivals and events, and overlap summer water play and winter ice skating programs – all under one retractable roof.   With ample amenities including hotel, retail, community facilities and restaurants, this space is ideal for programming opportu ..read more

We are thrilled to announce that the Foot of Lonsdale Plaza has won a 2019 National CSLA Award of Excellence. The North Vancouver site includes the mesmerizing water feature, whose serrated surface captures and reflects the mood of the sky above; and the Megabench, a three-meter-wide, fifty-meter-long twisted and undulating deck, formed to mimic ocean waves and encourages a diverse style of occupancy. The team we worked with was incredible and we couldn’t have done it without them. A big thank you goes out to: The City of North Vancouver The Polygon Gallery ISL DMD & Associates Kerr W ..read more

Earlier this month, Hapa held an annual summer social at Hillcrest & Riley Parks. To celebrate a year of hard work as well as 8 years of Hapa being in practice, Hapsters and family members (including Hapster alumni) enjoyed a game of California kickball. At sundown, the team switched gears to spectate the Canadians and Volcanoes game in the stands. Here’s to many more successful years! Many thanks to our Events Committee for organising and Jack and Louise for helping us capture the afternoon fun for those that were able to participate. Hapa Collaborative has focus on reinvigorating Vancouver’s public spaces and streets with engaging playgrounds and inviting resting spots… The project [Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza], which had a soft opening on June 22, is already adored by locals. Its most defining feature is a tricolour mosaic of asymmetric tiles. In Canadian cities public squares can be few and far between. This plaza’s dramatic upgrade gives a new face to the entire downtown core. In light of Canada Day celebrations, Azure magazine handpicked firms that “express the power and vision of the nation” — what an honour to ..read more
