Can somebody help reduce my pdf file size for my portfolio?

I have a PDF of my portfolio (37 pages) with embedded images and illustrator files totaling 49 MBs. Most firms I’m applying to have a 10 MB file size limit. I’ve used various PDF optimization methods and I still can’t get my file size down to 8-10 MBs while not looking pixelated. If I upload my file, can somebody tinker with it and see what they can do? Major appreciation in advance! submitted by /u/ramobara [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What was architecture school like in the 90s?

Mostly what it says on the tin. I'm writing a story which takes place in the US during the 90s decade. The main character is someone who is majoring in architecture at a (fictional) university known for its prowess in this area. I'd imagine with the advent of "new" software (MacIntoshes, computer labs, etc.) that studying architecture in the 90s was different at the very least. So, for people that taught/studied architecture in the 90s, what was it like? Were there any major pedagogical differences present in this decade? What were assignments and projects like? Were students ever tasked with ..read more

Hey all, I’m applying to an internship at Gensler for the summer. I’m trying to figure out what to focus on in my cover letter talking about why I want to work there. Usually when writing one I find whatever the main focus of the firm is and talk about that but I don’t even know where to start with this one. Does anyone have any advice about what to write about? Thanks submitted by /u/Free-Cakes [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It’s on top of a barn store façade. I don’t know if it has a purpose. Second image has the store façade itself. Also is there an official name for the pole canopy in the second image? submitted by /u/scaryshopping27 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Medieval castle walls ""slanted outward at the plinth" - what does it mean?

In fantasy novels where a castle is laid siege to, it's often noted that the castle's walls are "slanted outward at the plinth" as a defensive measure. Usually a character will observe that the castle's walls can't be brought down by medieval sappers because of this feature. I'm trying to understand how this works but can't find any explanations. The plinth seems to be a section of a wall very close to the bottom. So I'm guessing that the walls being "slanted outward at the plinth" means that the entire wall is slanted outwards (towards the attacking enemy), and that digging under or firing t ..read more

How do you come to terms with designing million dollar homes you yourself could never even dream to attain? Hell in most HCOL markets architects can even afford the average home… how do you cope with this? submitted by /u/Brilliant_Extent_458 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
