MIAMI, Fla. -- March 27, 2024 - Tennis is the healthiest sport in the world and today the United States Tennis Association (USTA), alongside Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and special guests from the White House, announced that the USTA is the first National Governing Body (NGB) to partner with the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition (PCSFN). The PCSFN is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote nutrition and physical activity for all people, regardless of background or ability. USTA Florida is saddened by the recent passing of volunteer and league captain Gwendolyn Berestecki. She was a beloved member of the USTA Florida family, especially in her community of Lee County.  Born in 1952, in Flint, Michigan, Gwendolyn, also known as Gwen to her peers, has been giving back to her community and helping others for decades. She earned a radiologic technologist certification and worked in a few hospitals. DELRAY BEACH, FLA., MAR 19, 2024 - USTA welcomed Coco Gauff to Pompey Park, her hometown tennis courts in Delray Beach, for a court dedication in her honor.  Gauff, who grew up in South Florida, has been taking the tennis world by storm, especially with her 2023 season. Key Highlights  USTA Florida celebrated International Women’s Day by honoring three female leaders at Palmetto Bay in Miami-Dade County and renewed its commitment to closing the gender gap in Florida tennis.  New independent research shows that men are far more represented in sports leadership positions and girls are receiving less encouragement and opportunities in the sports industry.  Of the more than 1.6 million tennis players in Florida, women make up 39 percent of players. Eight Pairs Earn Golden Tickets NTRP Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships

The Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach played host to the NTRP 18 & Over Mixed Doubles Sectional Championship. Duos were battling it out all weekend long for a spot at the NTRP National Championships later in April.  This sectional used the short set format, meaning it was a race to win four games in a set. If tied after two sets, the teams would compete in a 7-point tiebreaker.
