Marilyn @create.anew I'm so thankful of all these fabulous testers! They dedicated their time and fabric to give great feedback so I could finetune the pattern and get it as perfect as possible. They did a great job and it's inspiring to see the bag in so many different fabrics and colours.   During the testing I made changes to the instructions and it was clear that a video tutorial would be a great addition to the pattern. I've recently uploaded the video tutorial so you can sew along with your Tsuno Tie Bag. Get your Tsuno Tie Bag here Karine Karine made the size M in a lovely Liberty ..read more

What is ease in sewing. Wearing ease, design ease, negative ease explained
Charlotte Kan - Sewing Blog

Ease / wearing ease / design ease / negative ease What is ease and why should you care about it? Well...have you ever sewn a (pdf) sewing pattern after following directions, carefully measuring yourself and selecting the size only to have it come out way to large or tighter than you wanted? That's because you haven't factored in ease. Just like every clothing brand out there, each sewing pattern company uses their own set of body measurements and on top of that they add wearing ease and design ease. So you'll have no idea how loose or fitted a garment will turn out. Even if the pattern envelo ..read more

Mitered corners on double fold hems two methods for garments or accessories...Maybe you've never sewn mitered corners because they look complicated, but there are two great reasons you should add this technique to your sewing skills. Reduce bulk Sewing corners on double fold hems can be a bit tricky, if you simply fold the seam allowance on top of each other it creates a bulky corner that can be difficult to sew over. Maybe you've encountered those bulky corners where the sewing machine just won't sew over multiple layers of fabric, even when you are trying to pull the fabric through or are ..read more

How to sew a mitered corner on a wide double fold hem
Charlotte Kan - Sewing Blog

This sewn mitered corner tecnhique is great for wider double fold hems 1cm / 3/8" and up. You can use it on napkins and garments, basically anywhere you have a corner on a double fold hem. It will take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll be glad you've added this techique to your sewing skills. It adds a nice touch to your handmades and it reduces bulk. If you are making a project with a narrow seam allowance, up to about 1 cm  / 3/8",  you might want to opt for a folded mitered corner. There will be a small gap in the end result, but on smaller seam allowances you won ..read more

You Always Have to Run With Scissors or Always Sew Without Pins...Pick one

If you are Dutch you are probably familiar with “Dilemma on Dinsdag” or in English “Tuesday Chooseday”. It’s a fun game where you get a hilarious and absurd dilemma, and you HAVE to pick one. But wat does it have to do with sewing? Well…while I’m chipping away at the new pattern I’ve got a dilemma (and a solution) for you eventough it's not even Tuesday yet ;)! The dilemma: You always have to run with scissors. Or You always have to sew without pins. Which one would you pick? When I just started sewing the latter would have seemed like a total nightmare. I can remember the first tim ..read more
