I finished the first draft of my ninth and latest book, Bhakti – Yoga of Love. It took me 9 weeks and this draft has already about 380 pages. Before that I had about a 20-year period where I knew I wanted to write this book but only slowly, unconsciously gained clarity what was to be in it. Then there was a two-year period with tons of daily study, Bhagavad Gita and dozens of its commentaries, Bhagavata Purana, Narada Bhakti Sutra, Ramanujacharya, Ramakrishna, Aurobindo, Whitehead, all with a fine comb and of course there will be hundreds of quotations. The first draft is the actual writing of ..read more

This article is an expanded version of an Instagram Live talk I recently did with Helena Rosenthal, where she invited me to take a yogic angle on the recent wars. The hour-long video is now available on YouTube here, however I received a lot of requests to elaborate further on some topics I could only skim over in the live broadcast. So here is the expanded version or directors cut. In this expanded article I will analyse the historical, spiritual, psychological and political implications of 5000 years of permanent warfare. As to my qualification to talk about these subjects (today almost ever ..read more

After this book has been out of print for a while I have created a new Print-On-Demand edition. The new edition is now available from most online retailers worldwide. Curiously, Amazon’s UK and Japanese websites still lists it as not in stock. I’m assuming this changes at some point. Here a list of retailers where you can get it now: https://www.amazon.com/ASHTANGA-YOGA-Intermediate-Gregor-Maehle/dp/0648893278/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2RYPWKZ634HMV&keywords=gregor+Maehle+intermediate+series&qid=1700600418&sprefix=gregor+maehle+intermediate+series%2Caps%2C366&sr=8-2 https://www.amazon.co ..read more

The War Inside of Us

Helena Rosenthal invited me to talk about the recurring wars that we seem to get involved. There is an imperative to pick a side and join a team but by fighting against each other we are distracted from cooperating on the issues of our age, fighting climate change and mass extinction of live. The approach I took was to deconstruct the historical, spiritual, psychological and political implications of 5000 years of permanent warfare. This video was originally recorded on Instagram live, which chews up a lot of bandwidth, so, I apologise for the quality. Helena graciously went through the whole ..read more

How can we find hope in a time of permanent warfare?
Chintamani Yoga - Mountain Top Yogis Blog

How can we find hope in a time of permanent warfare, environmental destruction and mass extinction? I often get asked this question. Humans seem to have a need for hope to go forward into an uncertain future with a positive attitude. I am proposing that we do away with the need for hope. The future is entirely uncertain and by relying on hope we may get disappointed and eventually dejected. In the Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna says, “Surrender the fruits of your actions to me- karma phala tyagah” The fruit of an action is its outcome, its result. For example I may be a peace activist and my desir ..read more

Today reports have become common of strange, intense body sensations, sometimes involving loss of consciousness, intense surges of energy, burning sensations accompanied by emotional highs, and emotional discharges and catharses. Some of these experiences are described as ecstatic or epiphanic, others as frightening and threatening. A hallmark common to them is that they are described as beyond control. Sometimes these experiences seem related to experimenting with Mula Bandha and breathing, but often, they seem completely spontaneous. Those with these experiences after initial euphoria often ..read more
