The General: Primetime Golf at Eagle Ridge
WiscoGolfAddict

There are few golf destinations in the Midwest that I’d still consider to be budget-friendly and worth visiting, and Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa in Galena, Illinois is near the top of that list. The crown jewel of Eagle Ridge is undoubtedly The General. Named for General Ulysses S. Grant who held residence along the glorious bluffs and majestic Mississippi River in Galena, the Andy North and Roger Packard designed General would serve him proud, delivering wonderful highs and dramatic lows as it rolls through the region’s bluff-laden terrain. With changes in elevation that can best be describe ..read more

Malbon Tour M Golf Balls: [Unexpected] Well-Balanced Tour Performance

by Paul Seifert

When I decided to demo new gear from Malbon Golf, I’ll be honest their golf balls weren’t the thing I was most looking forward to checking out. They weren’t in the top five products I was excited about, in fact, having received a couple polos, a pullover, putter cover, sweet new shoes (which you can check out in the header image and shot by Troy, below) and other golf goodies. Not anymore. Not after last month’s late-February round. With incredibly un-winter-like 70-degree weather predicted for the day, there was no chance I was going to miss out on playing golf. So we got a tee time set up at ..read more

Foreword: Thank you to my friend, Patrick Koenig, for allowing me to feature some of his photos in this article along with mine. Our round together last September was the final tee time of the day, so we had to take full advantage of the daylight by shooting in-round. The result was some incredibly memorable yet poorly played golf, and without Patrick’s help I would not have been able to provide images of every hole. Thank you, Patrick, and congrats again on the world-record setting 580 unique courses played in 2023! If you are not already, be sure to follow Patrick on Instagram as @pjkoenig a ..read more

Building the Custom Simulator of Your Dreams
WiscoGolfAddict

Jon Holzbauer Jon Holzbauer played collegiate golf at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, graduating in 2010. He continues to play in WSGA tournaments when he can, but mostly gets his golf fix from trips with old teammates and local rounds with friends and family. Jon built a home simulator so he and his friends can scratch the golf itch throughout the frigid Wisconsin winters. He loves to work on swing mechanics and learn about new ways to improve his game. It is probably safe to say that every midwestern golfer’s dream is to have their very own simulator setup. The selection, affordabi ..read more

The Karoo at Cabot Citrus Farms: And the Award for Most Improved Goes to…

I was always a fan of the Tom Fazio-designed courses at World Woods, the original 1990’s multi-course property that made me feel like not all golf in Florida is the same. World Woods was very good, but Cabot Citrus Farms, and in particular the Karoo course (The Roost is still being developed), is spectacular, and it’s been under the tutelage of the young, up-and-coming visionary golf course architect Kyle Franz. Franz, based out of Pinehurst, North Carolina, has become a massive up-and-comer in the golf course architecture industry, and The Karoo course at Cabot’s new Florida property proves w ..read more

February 18, 2024 (course played January 22, 2024) The WiscoGolfAddict crew of Paul Seifert (Founder), Troy Giljohann, Brian Murphy & Gregg Thompson enjoyed every minute of our 38-hole media preview day at Cabot Citrus Farms. Have you ever felt like your golf addiction is spiraling out of control? Well, in times like that, it’s important to remember that there are thousands of golf nuts out there just like you, constantly obsessing over clubs, equipment, gear and accessories and itching to get to the course every day. Nowhere is this more obvious than at the PGA Merchandise Show, a massive gathering of the golf-afflicted population and showcase of the entire industry. I was naturally a little nervous about my first trip to the PGA Show in Orlando this January. I had heard tales of this gargantuan spectacle, but not ..read more
