What product should we choose

Hi! For some time our company has been using the ESXi 6. Now, we need to upgrade and purchase the new edition of such product but it seems like the solutions lineup and marketing strategy of VMWare has changed a lot since then. There are now only subscription sales model and the names of some products were changed too. So the question is what tier of the up-to-date products lineup should we consider to sign up? Briefly about our needs: we have a couple of Xeon machines (Gold 40 cores, Silver 20 cores), ~300Gb RAM each and we host about 5-10 VMs on each one. The load is far from the limit for ..read more

VCenter Server Management "Alerting"

How would someone be alerted if any of the health statuses visible in Server Management go to yellow or red? We are specifically interested in how to monitor the Database status as that does not seem to be reflected anywhere in vCenter itself. submitted by /u/aseriousworkaccount [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Moving hosts to new vcenter8 , what changes to Dist Switch

Guys need some help please. I’m moving half dozen esxi hosts to new vcenter 8 and wondering what changes needs to be done on networking side. I do see there is one distributed switch setup on cluster. I have upgraded and moved hosts with standard switch and didn’t make any changes to virtual switch. Is this going to be complicated and need networking team support ? TIA submitted by /u/dcexp [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can you specify a service mesh when using powercli for HCX migration?

I am trying to create a powercli script that will do a lot of bulk migrations from one site to another. When using the GUI for migrations you can specify what service mesh you want to use for a set of VM's. What I can't find, is this option when using powercli. I'd like to spread the load around our 3 SM's as I'm doing these migrations instead of it always going to the same SM every time. Any info would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you. submitted by /u/Feeling-Basis-5979 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

VSAN 3 node cluster

In a 3 node cluster FTT1 RAID1 when a host fails, Data is safe but you cant do anything until that host is rebuilt or replaced. What else do you "lose" during that time in vcenter as far as supporting those vms. Can I make changes to those vms in that datastore? submitted by /u/WhoKnowsAComputerGuy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm trying to add two Cisco UC hosts to our vCenter (vCenter 8.0). The hosts are running ESXi 7.0.1. When I try to add the hosts, I'm taken thru the typical wizard. I enter the FQDN, username and password for the root, and I'm prompted with a certificate warning. After I accept the warning, I'm taken to the next page of the step where it shows hosts to be added with a warning. Once I expand the warning it shows the error I stated above. Has anyone else seen this before? submitted by /u/Miragent-Studios [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

New hosts, new esxi version, new vcenter, same SAN, migration procedure without downtime?

I have three hosts, currently esxi 7, they're in a cluster on a vcenter 7, they have a shared datastore on a fiber channel SAN (about 35TB). I have three new physical hosts, esxi 8, I made a new vcenter version 8. they are in a cluster and at the moment they don't have a shared datastore. on the old cluster/esxi there is no distributed switch, just standard switches. on the new cluster there's a standard switch on each node with the same portgroups and a distributed switch in the cluster with equivalent port groups but LACP to the switches. I was planning to detach the hosts from the old clus ..read more
