I hope this sub is a good place to start for this. I’m into geocaching and am trying to solve a mystery puzzle. The puzzle lists 5 other geocaches and gives a bearing from each one, then it lists a 6th cache with a distance. If I had a map and a compass, I’m confident I could knock this out fairly easily, but alas, I have neither. Is there a map tool or app out there somewhere that will let me pinpoint a coordinate and then draw a line at a certain bearing?

Don't know if this is the right place to ask. But what software do I use to make a map? I want to be able to make it detailed with a bunch of cities, the mountain ranges, rivers, etc.. (kinda like the images i put)
What software should I use, and how do I know where to place the cities and rivers like how do I know their correct place?
I've never done this before but it's been a dream.
[I just want it for my personal use for when I read history really and to learn more geography]

Howdy,
I’m a forester and make maps and conduct spatial analysis constantly in my work. Over the years, I’ve grown to love old maps and the process of making new ones digitally. I’ve grown interested in making maps by hand which I did once in college where we shot the bearing and distance around the perimeter of a forest and made a map to scale. I would like start drawing maps to scale in my free time but don’t know where to start when looking online. Does anyone recommend a good beginning cartographers kit and a book or website with hand drawn map exercises?
Thanks!

A little bit ago I asked on here if people would watch me stream my mapmaking, and the positive responses convinced me to start. This here is a map I drew in my new stream in which I draw maps randomly generated by dice rolls. I stream my mapmaking every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, but Thursdays are dedicated to drawing these random maps. It's not the prettiest thing I've drawn, but it's a fun exercise and a lot of fun to make. If you want to watch me draw and hang out, please check out my channel called The_Mystical_Narrator. I also plan to let chat help me design dungeon maps or really ..read more

Hi all, I'm in a cartography 2 class where I need to make some interactive and animated maps as part of a final, but I'm struggling where to find good data to make these types of maps. Some ideas I had was to map out where species have traveled due to urban growth, but I'm open to anything environmental-related data that's easy to find.

I’d love to help someone with cartography work or world building. If you would like a custom map for a dnd campaign/book/whatever. I’ll make you one for free. I can make digital and physical maps on many different styles. This is more of a passion for me than a job. I’d love some advice on my maps and world building techniques myself if you have any! Here’s some of the maps I’ve made if you’re interested.

Like the title says. I'm looking to help my 10 year old get into cartography. He's fascinated by maps and geography, and I was looking for resources to help get him started in potentially map making and eventually GIS stuff (I'm familiar with Esri and their resources, but he's a little young still). I did some searches here already and found stuff that seems to be aimed at folks further along in their education (like this - https://www.reddit.com/r/cartography/comments/uez2kz/can_i_be_a_cartographer/ ), but was wondering if there were good child-friendly resources, youtube channels (map men i ..read more

Hi, I'm creating a map and I want to style the roads on it in the colours of a UK AA road atlas. Can anyone tell me where I can find the RGB or hexadecimal values for the particular colours that they use for the roads (motorway blue, dual carriageway green, etc)?
Thanks

I am creating a map for my cartography project and I'm looking for data on Superfund locations in Ohio. I found maps but not actual data tables. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!
