If you observe their behaviour, 99% I have no doubt "preachers" are in it for clout

The Muslim debaters and dawah type don't care about "saving you". see how they act. Its always ahaha I was right! The Christians get pissy when you simply tell them you don't believe. I've cared for a great many types of people..kids and women in homeless shelters. If I cared for them I never thought to tell them I told you so or to yell at them and say I hope they go to jail. No one who says you will go to hell is a loving christian or muslom. While it might not be as much as the "preacher/dawah category" even the run of mill Christians/muslim/hare krishna type that decide to not take a no a ..read more

Story time about how I found out my mother is a victim blamer

Story time So a while back when my mother was becoming more and more religious and was starting to take the whole family to church, she would basically dress code me for wearing crop tops to church. She never had any problem with me wearing crop tops anywhere. And her explanation was that men who struggle with their thoughts go to church. Also I'm still a minor, so in my head my head, I'm thinking, "woah, how could I have not known that my own mother is a victim blamer" So I confront her about it and say somthing like, "So if something bad happens to me it's my fault?" She said, "Shut up." Th ..read more

History of atheism

In my limited time on this sub, and other religion debate subs, Christians reference their long history, and seem unpleasantly surprised by the emergence of atheism. However, some academics trace a long history of atheism going back centuries: https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/disbelieve-it-or-not-ancient-history-suggests-that-atheism-is-as-natural-to-humans-as-religion Atheism has been around forever. Does anyone have recs on more detailed articles, books, or videos? submitted by /u/Antique_Warthog1045 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I hate that I love church scandals

A month ago, an scandal broke involving a couple of mega churches. I listened to the Friendly Atheist's podcast and then I didn't even finish. I watched all these videos of the original sword swallowing event, one pastor calling him out, the other pastor angry reaction, the later call to repentance in the hosting mega church. I also watched quite a few reaction videos from atheists and Christians. Today, I made a joke that I realized didn't even make sense without context. And then I realized that I am so hung up on it. I find it so fascinating and I hate the glee that I'm experiencing. And t ..read more

Oklahoma Got Hit With Multiple Tornados Yesterday

My home state of Oklahoma got hit with several severe storms and some pretty nasty tornadoes yesterday. My hometown saw a decent bit of damage. And low and behold I get on Facebook today to see one of my old church friend’s mother post about “if you don’t believe in god, you had better rethink you’re decision. And other bullshit. Apparently one of the storms split and completely missed her daughter’s house. Even though countless other houses a couple of streets up were damaged or leveled. Like wtf people lost their homes. But fuck them I guess, god is definitely real because that specific hou ..read more

I have never understood the phrase "god-fearing"

Why is this considered a good thing ? Isn't god supposed to be caring, loving, kind, and forgiving ? Isn't he supposed to be the "good" one ? If he is, then why in the world would someone fear their god ? I'm so interested to understand why this is a phrase, so if anyone can explain this, I'd appreciate it ? submitted by /u/Weasel-in-a-can [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mayor Adams to Meet With Pope Francis in Rome. Adams is not Catholic, but has frequently sought to portray himself as a devout politician on a godly mission. At a church service just last week, he described himself as “prayer warrior” who acts as a “vessel that allows God to operate through.”
