Wall mount pull-up bar, close to wall?

I'm searching for a pull-up bar with specific requirements, any experience or recommendations? My wish list includes: Wall mount only (no door mount, door jams, etc). Close to the wall (fairly open area of my house, so I'm avoiding the wall mount bars that stick two feet out and have large vertical mounting hardware) Also, it will be mounted above a door, so I'm not worried about kicking the wall) Standard thickness (like barbells found at the gym, 1.125" thick I think) Knurled Rogue Jammer fits the bill, but when viewing the real-life pictures it appears to be very bulky! Admittedly it's a ..read more

Is this an ok beginner calisthenics and mobility programme?

Hi everyone, I've recently gotten into calisthenics, which I'm really enjoying, however I've noticed that many of the programs online seem to be full body workouts 3 times per week. Due to other commitments, it's much easier for me to adopt a little and often approach to my training, by increasing the frequency yet reducing the volume. I was wondering if the workout I've created below would be ok? My goals first and foremost are just to get in better shape, and hopefully build strength and flexibility at the same time. I currently train in the morning before work, then do some flexibility tra ..read more

Is it very different just a handstand and a handstand pushup balance-wise?

So long story short my pe teacher dared me to do 5 HSPU. I think I have the strength to do at least 1 HSPU, because I can do 9 on the wall (like the handstand is done on the wall). I can also get into a handstand with the crow pose (I think it's called like that) The thing is my balance. I am getting better with my balance (I have been doing the one foot off the wall and briefly getting the other foot off the wall as well) I can last around 5 seconds with the feet off the wall. So, I'm asking. If after finally being balanced enough to hold a handstand for a while will it be another learning t ..read more

Weighted Dips

Now im quite experienced with weighted dips so the form is on point (had street lifting trainers). lately I injured myself and i would just like some feedback to be sure that its the reason. While working with heavyweights everything was fine. the other day i decided to do lower weights for sets of 15+. on the last rep, I lost controll and fell really quickly to the bottom with huge ROM which and felt sharp pain. Is the Pain because of the sudden ROM without warm up to that extent? or is it just because my body is not used to high reps and losing control with failure. how could i avoid it? s ..read more

Am I going overboard dedicating a day a week solely to core?

Ring rollouts: 15+10, 15+8, 15+10 Reverse ring rollouts: 15+5, 12+6, 15+7 Ring tuck to extended rollouts (straddle): 12+8, 12+8, 12+5 Leg raise kickouts: 10+5, 10+5, 12+3 90° lower back extensions (+10kg): 12+5, 10+5, 15+5 ^ That's what today looked like for me (numbers are split bc of pause sets). It's honestly my favourite day of the week because I'm strengthening my core and lower back which were notoriously weak and are still a bit behind. On top of that, my shoulders and hamstrings feel like they're getting obliterated, which is nice. Question is, is this too much? submitted by /u/Kin ..read more

Strapped assisted iron cross?

I have been training the iron cross for 4 months now (2 times a week) using the dream machine. However, the dream machine is hung on the high bars so there are days when I can’t use it because other people are doing high bar routine. I’d recently decided to use strapped assisted iron cross, but I heard a lot of bad things about it. Mostly that it does not prepare my elbows and can lead to tendinitis. I wonder if doing Zanetti press would help with preparing my elbows. I can press 25lbs for 7-8 reps per set and planning to move to 30lbs soon. Also, when I did the strapped iron cross, I felt a ..read more

Problem with dips

Hi, currently I am trying to improve my dips to at least 20. I do 3 sets to failure with 5 minutes of rest in between, 2 times a week. The problem is that 3 weeks ago I was able to do 14 reps in my first set, 12 in second, 11 in third. The previous session I did 15 reps in my first set, 13 in second, 12 in third. And today I did 11 in my first, 14 in second and 12 in third. My warm up is some dynamic stretches and 5 dips(maybe they are the reason of 11 reps in first set). I don't understand why I did more reps in 2nd set today and why I managed to increase my dips only by 1 rep, despite train ..read more

I want to get back into it

I want to restart going to the gym regularly, but I find fitting hour-long workouts into my schedule difficult. Having kids and an atypical work schedule makes it a challenge. I am a skinny man, 5'11", 145 pounds. Cardio is not something I want to work on, my job involves a lot of walking. Taking the time is not the issue as much as actually making sure I can concentrate on it while I am there. Would 30 minutes strength training sessions, three times per week be sufficient? The goal is to have an outlet for spending energy and building some strength. submitted by /u/Lepineski [visit reddit ..read more
