Visiting the Eden Project is a must-see when you are in Cornwall. The Eden Project is sometimes dubbed as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. The history of the Eden Project is fascinating. The project is located in a reclaimed china clay pit. The initial idea for the project dates back to 1996, with construction beginning in 1998. Once into the attraction, there is a meandering path with views of the two biomes, planted landscapes, including vegetable gardens, and sculptures. When building the biomes, rather than ship in 90,000 tonnes of soil the team wanted to create it in a wa ..read more

I can’t believe it is time for my ABCs of Winter post already. It feels as though I just wrote the autumn post. And like I mentioned in my autumn post, I missed out on writing a list for 2022 so I am glad to bring it back. Last winter, I was so unwell that I did not have a proper Christmas, New Year and I missed the first week of school back so I want to focus on staying healthy this year! And believe it or not, this is actually the 9th ABCs of Winter post that I’ve written! So without further ado, the list! Advent calendar chocolates. It feels so decadent to start the day with a chocol ..read more

Socca is a gluten-free bread made from chickpea flour. It is a type of thin, unleavened pancake or crêpe made from chickpea flour. It originated in Italy and later became a typical food of the Ligurian Sea coast, from Nice to Sardinia and Elba islands. Ingredients: 1 cup chickpea flour (4 1/2 ounces) 1 cup water 1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for the pan and drizzling 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons of rosemary Directions: Whisk the chickpea flour, water, olive oil, and salt together in a medium bowl until smooth. Let rest for 30 minutes to give the flour ..read more

My Favourite Dark Academia Reads

Dark Academia took the world of social media by storm. There is some worthwhile criticism which I am absolutely not ignoring but as an aesthetic,  personally, I love it. Especially when it walks that fine line of romanticising learning the pursuit of knowledge and criticising the elitism and classism that has traditionally gone hand in hand with education. Here is my essential reading list. Essential Dark Academia Reading: The Secret History by Donna Tart The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo Babel by R F Kuang If We Were Villians by ML Rio The Cloisters by Katy Hays Mexican Gothic by Silvia ..read more

Celebrating Samhain

It’s almost Samhain and there’s a lot I am looking forward to this year. Especially my Persephone and Hades tarot card pull from Holly. A brief background (because you know I love a bit of trivia and history):  The Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced ‘sowin‘) originated in Ireland, the UK and Northern France around 2,000 years ago. The Celtic new year started on November 1, and the day marked the official end of the summer and harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold, hibernating and regenerating time of year (thus we usually associate it with death). They believed that on the ..read more

Boscastle has long been on my bucket list to visit. Partially because it is called “the Salem of the UK”. I was so thrilled when we went for my birthday. I was bouncing up and down in the car with excitement. There’s more to Boscastle than a picturesque natural harbour and village. The famous Elizabethan quay sits in an impressive amphitheatre of steep cliffs and is home to quaint stone-built cottages, shops and tea-rooms. One of the unusual features at Boscastle is the Devil’s Bellows. This is a blow-hole located under Penally Point. When conditions are right, rushing water through the blow-h ..read more

I have been blogging for a long time. A very long time. ABCs of the seasons used to be a common feature on Rhyme & Ribbons. And then last year, I was so busy with so many things that I just did not write one for the first time in 9 years. This makes the 10th ABCs of Autumn post that I have written. Over 10 years of Rhyme & Ribbons! So without further ado, here is my annual ABCs of Autumn. ABCs of Autumn Apple cider flavoured everything. It’s not very common but I love proper American apple cider (cider isn’t alcohol in America which is a shock to UK readers; it’s more like a sup ..read more

I was on a massive health kick this summer. Where I tended to struggle without just eating the same overnight oats again and again was breakfast. I love a shakshuka, so I thought it was time to add in another slightly slower (more brunch-appropriate) recipe to my breakfast repertoire. Vegan Pesto Beans on Sourdough Toast Ingredients: 3 1/2 cups of spinach 1 bunch of basil 1 fresh green chili 2 tablespoons of olive oil 1/2 teaspoon of chili flakes 4 cloves of garlic, peeled 1 lemon 1 white onion , diced coconut oil 2 tins of cannellini beans 1 tin of butter beans nutritional yeast salt pepper ..read more

Celebrating Mabon
Rhyme & Ribbons - A UK Lifestyle Blog

It is almost Mabon again already (next week roughly celebrated between the 21st and 25th). Otherwise known as the autumn equinox it makes the end of the harvest season. There is still warmth in the air during the day but you can start to feel the crispness of autumn. I find that you can smell autumn. It’s a brisk, crisp, slightly sharp smell that is actually the smell of leaves, trees, and plants dying and rotting. A brief bit of background: Mabon is named after a god of Welsh mythology. Mabon means “Great Son” and it stands in reference to the Welsh mythological character Mabon ap Modron ..read more
