Tonight sees Jurgen Klopp take charge of Liverpool in a Merseyside derby for the 19th and final time, and it’s a fixture which has frequently ended in frustration, especially at Goodison Park. Although the 56-year-old has never lost at the venue, five of his last six away derbies have seen Everton earn a draw (Transfermarkt), and a similar result on Wednesday night would be a massive setback to the Reds’ Premier League title hopes. However, speaking on NBC Sports, ex-Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle is very confident that LFC will have the firepower to do the double over the Toffees for the s ..read more

Arne Slot is currently the firm frontrunner to be Liverpool’s next manager, but if the pursuit of the Feyenoord boss hits the rocks irretrievably, one of his peers might just be keen on replacing Jurgen Klopp for the second time in his career. Graeme Bailey reported for TBR Football that Thomas Tuchel is keen on returning to England this summer, with the agents of the exit-bound Bayern Munich coach having contacted both the Reds and Manchester United to inform them that the 50-year-old is ready to pursue another job straight away once the season ends. However, the former Chelsea manager – who ..read more

Feyenoord’s press conference announcement all but rubber-stamps Slot news – Joyce
The Empire of The Kop

It seems that we’re on the cusp on seeing Arne Slot being confirmed as the Liverpool manager and an announcement out of Feyenoord has only strengthened these links. As reported by Paul Joyce for The Times: ‘a press conference with Slot scheduled for Wednesday to preview Thursday’s Eredivisie game away to Go Ahead Eagles has been cancelled.’ In a press conference that would have no-doubt been full of questions about the Reds, it seems like both a smart decision but one that will only add further fuel to the fire of the Dutchman becoming our head coach. Arne Slot’s release clause revealed as Liverpool open talks with Feyenoord – Joyce
The Empire of The Kop

A man who not many had heard of never mind considered to be Liverpool manager is now a huge step closer to taking the job and now Arne Slot’s release clause has been revealed. Writing for The Times, Paul Joyce reported: ‘There is no release clause in that deal but it is thought a fee of less than €10 million euros (about £8.6 million) could be enough to prise him away.’ With a contract that lasts until 2026, it was always going to take some financial incentive for Feyenoord to part ways with their coach but this is certainly a figure we would be willing and able to pay. The Empire of The Kop
by Peter Kenny Jones

The Merseyside derby can sometimes bring the worst out of people and that seems to have been the case with Tony Bellew during one particular match. Speaking with Match of the Day, the Everton fan said: “I sat here for the derby, the horrible derby [September 2001] when that horrible man Steven Gerrard scored. “Ran right down this way with his tongue out, ‘Blaaa!’ If I get hold of you, I’ll pull that tongue out of our mouth. Just kills me that probably the best player this city’s ever produced – well, it’s him or Wazza, I’d say Rooney but – he’s unbelievable.”  READ MORE: Kl ..read more
