With a mix of emotions, today we announce the closing of Indiesew effective November 30, 2019, with digital pattern sales ending on November 15th.   Nearly six years since the inception of Indiesew, it’s time to move on and close up shop. Over the years, I’ve seen incredible support from the sewing community, a compassionate and insanely creative group of people that I’ve been proud to serve. We could not have built this without you all and I am so grateful for you. Thank you.   I look forward to continuing to participate in this amazing community in my new endeavors. Going forward, I ..read more

The weather is beginning to change, and with this seasonal transition comes a heightened sense of awareness in regards to my spaces. As I am beginning to spend more time indoors, I have noticed something: I am beginning to accumulate way too much stuff. Too many beauty products, too much fabric left over from college projects, and definitely WAY too many clothes. Throughout college, I prided myself in being darn-near close to a minimalist. I was an avid follower of Project 333 and capsule wardrobes. However, post-grad after snagging a pretty cool design gig, I began to lose my focus. Get ..read more

How to Style a Wrap Dress for Fall
Indiesew Blog

Lately, I've been really inspired to experiment with the clothes in my closet. If left to my own somewhat lazy devices I would wear a pair of jeans and a Kila Tank every single day. But as the weather is turning cooler here in Boulder, I decided to pull some of my less worn items out of the closet and see what outfits I could come up with. This red printed Highlands Wrap Dress is a piece that I absolutely love, but never, ever wear. I sewed it in a sewing class I taught a few years ago and I loved how it turned out. But I've been meaning to sew a hidden snap in the wrap facings for years. N ..read more

Cozy for Fall: Wrapped Cardigan
Indiesew Blog

For the past few mornings here in Colorado, we've woken up to a significant chill in the air. No longer am I rolling out of bed in a tank top and shorts and making breakfast with the windows open. It's finally time to layer up, and I couldn't be happier about it. Typically for weather like this, I'm reaching for my Wrapped Cardigan by Seamly. This week, I wanted to show you a different way to wear the Wrapped Cardigan sewing pattern. In most photos, we show this long, drapey cardigan worn open, with a tank top underneath. But lately, I've been wearing it wrapped around my body and secured w ..read more

How to Add a Henley Placket to the Kila Tank

Today, a year after its launch, I have enough separate Kila Tanks to wear every day for at least a month. I’ve sewn this tank top in every rib knit fabric that we carry. I’ve cropped this design, lengthened it into a midi dress and a mini dress, and sewn it in four different sizes depending on the fit I want. It’s safe to say I am not wanting for any more fitted rib knit tank tops in my wardrobe. But there is one hack that I’ve been dying to try on the Kila: a henley. I like how this simple detail adds more visual interest to a very basic design. Shiny snaps or contrast buttons on the p ..read more

I could not be more thrilled to help Allie out with the launch of the new size range for her Allie Olson pattern line! I first talked to Allie about this over the winter, and I know she has been working hard since then to get all the details right on the launch of her new and improved sizing. I've always been drawn to the styles of the Allie Olson patterns. They are practical designs that are great for my casual and outdoorsy lifestyle, so I am looking forward to seeing more patterns in my size in the future!         The new and improved Kila Tank pattern goes from size ..read more

I'm super excited to tell you that the Kila Tank sewing pattern has been revamped with ten new sizes! The Kila Tank was my fourth sewing pattern, launched about a year ago in my original 0 through 18 size chart. But now, it's available in sizes 0 through 30, with two cup sizes to choose from! And to celebrate, the Kila Tank pattern and all of our rib knit fabrics are 20% off through Sunday, August 25th with coupon code NEWKILA.  See the Kila Tank > I've been listening to the recent conversations in the sewing community around size inclusivity and have been working hard to add more size ..read more

How We Wear It: Frisco

There's a design that I've been wearing all summer long, multiple times per week, that I haven't been able to tell you about. It's been worn to music festivals, farmers markets, and to the office many times. It is without a doubt, my favorite thing to wear in this current moment. It's, of course, the Frisco Jumpsuit and Tank by Threadbear. Leslie has been working on this design for many months, and I have been able to peek at her behind-the-scenes process. I tried on one of the first muslins she sewed when I visited her in Kansas in April. And I (not-so) patiently waited for her to release ..read more

How to Turn Fabric Tubes the Easy Way
Indiesew Blog

This summer, I've been turning a lot of itsy-bitsy little fabric tubes right side out. I sewed this Ogden Cami slip dress and the silk Ogden Cami you see in this post. And I quickly started to get really frustrated with the process of trying to shove a long strip of fabric through a 3/8" opening. If you've been there, you know. My methods for turning tubes of fabric have run the gamut. In the past, I've fished a safety pin through fabric tubes, used a knitting needle and a metal straw to push the fabric through, but neither method was all that fast or effective. So, this spring I went on th ..read more

How to Mashup the Birkin Flares and Ginger Jeans

Once, many years ago, I owned a single pair of painted-on true black skinny jeans that I wore constantly. I think they came from a fashion subscription box, long before I was sewing most of my own clothes, and were a brand I had never heard of.  I’ve been dreaming about recreating them ever since they completely wore out, except this time with a super high rise. So, when Blackbird Fabrics had a denim release this spring, I snatched up a few yards of black Cone Mills stretch denim. It’s not available right now and I don’t remember the weight of the fabric, but it worked well to create th ..read more
