Wahoo has announced three new connectivity-related items for their BOLT V2 & ROAM V2 bike computers. As the title implies, you’ll now be able to control your GoPro, control your existing ANT+ smart lights (from any vendor), and control the music on your phone. Note that while the other pieces are here today, the GoPro integration isn’t lit up yet. Wahoo doesn’t quite yet have a timeframe for it, as it’s been delayed slightly to work out some kinks. Nonetheless, I’ll give you a quick 2-second tour. The smart light control and music control pieces are live as of today, whereas the GoPro int ..read more

The Week in Review is a collection of both all the goodness I’ve written during the past week around the internet, as well as a small pile of links I found interesting – generally endurance sports related. I’ve often wondered what to do with all of the coolness that people write, and while I share a lot of it on Twitter/X and Facebook, this is a better forum for sending it on to y’all. Most times these different streams don’t overlap, so be on the lookout at all these places for good stuff! So with that, let’s get into the action! Strava Expands Cycling Best Efforts, and Starts Pushing Routes to All Polar Devices

For this Thursday’s sports tech quickie, I’m going to blend two things with the word Strava into one post. One being entirely Strava-driven, the other being almost entirely Polar-driven. Together, they form one post. With that, let’s dive into it. Strava Expands Cycling Best Efforts: Strava is expanding their categories for best efforts, to now include both a distance/time parameter, as well as a best power for a given time-duration. This is in addition to the existing ‘Elevation’ and ‘Longest Ride’ options. This feature is being expanded for paid Strava Subscribers. The way it works is simpl ..read more

Polar has just announced the latest version of their flagship watch: the Polar Grit X2 Pro. While the Polar Grit X series contains the same features as the Polar Vantage V series, it’s designed in a more rugged case and premium materials. Except previously, that adventure-oriented Grit X series lacked one important backcountry feature: Offline maps. Now that box is checked, along with a slate of other features coming to the Grit X2 Pro that were introduced on the Vantage V3 last fall. The Grit X2 Pro adds those global offline maps, adds dual-frequency GPS, an improved heart rate sensor, and ..read more

Apple Fitness+ Studios Behind the Scenes: From Start to Finish

When it comes to sports tech or high-tech, filming a relaxing yoga class isn’t likely what first comes to mind. Yet, when Apple does it – they’ve got more than a dozen robotic cameras gliding autonomously around the floor and ceiling. Their staff plan and rehearse each session for weeks, critiqued on the sidelines by a literal peanut gallery of their co-workers. And, there isn’t just one trainer for a given video, but upwards of five. All in the pursuit of a slightly more cinematic sweat-filled online fitness class. As one might guess, given it’s from Apple, almost nothing at this converted 1 ..read more

Look’s New Road KEO Blade & SPD Power Meter Pedals: Hands-on!

Today Look has announced two interchangeable power meter pedals, their Look KEO Blade carbon road pedal power meter, and their X-Track SPD-based power meter pedal. These two pedals share the same internals, allowing you to buy one set, and then an extra set of pedal bodies to swap back and forth between road and off-road. On the road side, Look’s new pedal is by far the lowest-weight power meter pedal on the market, while on the MTB side, it has the highest drop-rating on the market. I’ve been testing these in various iterations over the last few months, however, despite that, this isn’t an ..read more

Supersapiens Announces It’s Shutting Down

Continuous glucose monitoring platform sports tech startup Supersapiens, has announced it’s shutting down. The company had been using Abbott Labs continuous glucose monitoring patches, in conjunction with their own app/platform, for the last few years in Europe. The general idea was that you can more accurately train and race, specifically for longer endurance events, by monitoring glucose levels. These are the exact same patches used for monitoring diabetes in various countries. The only difference was that Supersapiens had a software layer above it. Supersapiens was never able to get approv ..read more
