That' dark area in the sea of reds and golds is convection. Visible in many ways, but kind of fun to use an out of the box method here in Mid April. The Caribbean is coming alive........day by day.
Not ready for prime time yet....
Winds aloft blowing, flowing SW to NE
Not conducive for development.
And yet it hangs in there.
Stubbornly!
Huge sprawling Low....
...taking up the whole NE Atlantic.
Frontal boundaries moving along still.
Not there yet... still Spring.
This picture shows many things.
West to East.
New front moving East across USA/Canada

On June 12th, 1994 the world was rocked with a news story that went on to dominate the news cycle for the following year. It's a date and a time many will not forget. OJ went on after college to fame playing for the Buffalo Bills and infact had become quite the football hero, to many, as well as a public figure who had acted and was popular o ..read more

My brother sent me this picture of the partial eclipse in Florida, it's an awesome picture and of all the pics I saw of the eclipse it's one of the best I've seen. And, it brings up the question if you saw the eclipse but it wasn't a total eclipse and you didn't see the diamond on the side or the full blown Corona effect did you still really see the 2024 Eclipse??
Obviously this is THE OMG Corona pic ppl post....
Total Eclipse of the Sun.

The subject of the day is The Eclipse that crosses theUSA, totality going from Texas to Niagra Falls. Remember there is an eclipse path that crosses most of the East Coast in varying stages but not everyone gets totality! This image is supposed to be 2017 but who knows, they mostly look the same. Lunar Eclipses often are colored differently and sometimes in Miami we get a Red Lunar Eclipse due to Saharan Dust in the atmosphere. So let's look at these eclipses and past hurricane seasons. Many people ask if there is some correlation and I think that often is in the eye of the beholder, s ..read more

What to talk about?
Hurricane Season 2024 or The Eclipse?
It's that time of year I can almost smell the hurricane season in the wind in my head, but it was 43 degrees this morning in Raleigh and the only thing in the wind here is pollen. Lots of pollen blowing in the wind...
I'm a Hurricane History person and my main curiosity is analog years always.
This will be discussed in more depth as we ge ..read more

Woke up to rain. Heavy Rain now...
I put on TWC old school style :)
Pouring outside now.
Jim doing weather....
...TWC talking on The Solar Eclipse!
They will be chasing it...
Today is a Weather Day in Raleigh! Woke up way too early and smiled as the rain was moving in. That will wash off a lot of the pollen that landed all over everything after a record breaking pollen day in Raleigh! And, I like rain, I like wind and some storms should roll through later today. Then the daily high temperatures leave summer like 87 degrees and get back down into the 50s and 60s the way I like them.

What can we learn from the Bridge Collapse in Baltimore and what are the commonalities to Hurricane Disasters? There are many things to learn and one is an awareness of what happens when a Major Port, the 9th largest in the US (according to shipping/money/value not size) suddenly is dead in the water unable to ship out the cargo now in port - unable to leave the port and more so unable to receive cargo. In addition, Baltimore specialized in roll on/roll off cargo and the loss of that port for however long it will take to open it again impacts the people who work at the port daily, the ..read more
