Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC @ f/1.4 ISO 800 Sony a6300 I’ve been looking for a compliment to my Sony a7ii recently, but my search started not with the camera, but at what lenses had become available in the past year or two. I’ve actually been too busy taking photos recently to pay much attention to what has been released. I went through every option from getting a 2nd a7 of some sort, to having a whole other Fujifilm system on the sidelines. However, as much as I don’t love using the Sony a7 cameras, I have to admit that they are light/small and image quality really is incredible. The a7ii works very ..read more

Sony a7 III Announced & My Thoughts.

Sony have announced the release of the a7 iii.  I had a good play with it at The Photography Show and whilst it feels better, and has great specs it isn’t enough to convince me to ditch the a7 mk2’s I’m using as daily cameras.  I’m more convinced the a7R iii is the one to move to for the increase in resolution.  For anyone coming into the a7 system the mk3 marks a step up and real rivalry with modern dSLR cameras.  Sporting dual SD card slots loved by pro’s for data resiliency should one fail, a much larger battery for far longer shooting times, seemingly now rivalling, or ..read more

Sigma SD Quattro Review (APS-C Model) The Sigma SD Quattro builds on the dp Quattro range of cameras, which are all fixed lens APS-C sensor cameras, each model with their own particular focal length lens.  The SD Quattro builds on that by providing a more well-rounded camera, and the advantage of being able to use the Sigma SA mount ‘dSLR’ lenses, specifically their excellent Global Vision – Art, Contemporary and Sports lenses. As a disclaimer I must mention that this camera was supplied to me by Sigma UK, along with a 24-35mm f/2 Art lens.  As always, this never influences my ..read more

My thoughts on the Fujifilm X-Pro2

This is going to be quite a short post as I have mixed feelings about this.  First off I’d like to disclose and thank Fujifilm UK for loaning me an X-Pro2 for around 3 months, I am grateful to them for that as without the loan I would not be able to write this post. I’m just going to note down my thoughts good and bad about the X-Pro2 rather than write a full review on it.  There are loads of reviews out there already, and I don’t think we need another.  Let’s get to it then! I saved my money for an X-Pro2.  I waited and waited and waited, Fujifilm promised something amazi ..read more

In Fujifilm fashion, they have announced that some of the updates from the X-T2 will be brought to the X-Pro2 in the form of a firmware update.  Once again supporting previous models despite announcing a new model.  This flys in the face of other manufacturers (Sony in particular!) who are simply more interested in getting you to buy the latest camera.  Good on you Fujifilm once again! See details below. Today Fujifilm have announced the X-T2.  The successor to what has been their most popular model, the X-T1. As a quick summary, the new model has 24Mpx X-TransIII sensor, 2x SD-card slots, 4k video, both horizontal and vertical tilting screen, faster AF, customisable continuous AF, new 60fps and 100fps ‘burst mode’ EVF from the X-Pro2, It appears that Fujifilm have moved the X-T range into prime position for people wanting everything in one package.  The price reflects that too at £1399 – more than the X-Pro2. It looks like a great camera, but I feel slightly despondent that some of ..read more
