Sampling Makeup and Safety Thereof in Places like Sephora

One of life's greatest pleasures in the trove of samples you can try on in Sephora. :) But I have wondered about safety re infection? Is the alcohol they provide really enough to disinfect a lipstick bullet? (There is no way to know if the isopropanol provided is in the 75-91% range, or if it's rubbing alcohol.) Lip gloss tubes and mascaras seem particularly suspect, even though they provide applicators for both. Thoughts? Better to buy the product and return if dissatisfied ..read more

How to get rid of facial hair without threading or waxing?

Shaving Shaving is the fastest and easiest at-home hair removal procedure. You can safely remove facial hair around the upper lip, chin, eyebrows, and sidelocks with minimum effort. However, these results are neither permanent nor long-lasting. If you rely on shaving, you will have to re-shave every two to three days. To get the best results while shaving, you could smoothen the surface of the skin prior to shaving by applying shaving cream or soap on the soap. This will reduce the chances of getting cuts. The best movement whilst shaving is to glide the shaver over your face in the directio ..read more

Hello, girls and people of the Beauty Brains!! <3 <br> So, I have been having a little dryness on my face and was thinking to use some Night cream to keep my face hydrated and cleansed at the same time. So I really liked "Fresh", Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream, has anyone used it before? I am having this at a decent price by using the Sephora promo code that I had been saving for a while and think that its time to use 'em now. But I don't want to waste my vouchers and therefore need recommendations. :) :) Kindly, let me know if anyone has used it and what were its effects (posit ..read more

Hi Perry and Valarie, Big time fan here, I have been binging all of your iTunes episodes, they are really fun to listen to on my walk to school. Maybe I should change my major haha. I have a question about formulation for you. I have heard of oil in water and vice versa formulation. But I came across the brand CureCode that says they have what it looks like oil-in-water-in-oil-in-water formulation, that each layer encapsulate ingredients and over-all remember skin barrier more. Is this even an interesting or novel technology? How do they make sure each ingredients layer up like they show in ..read more

Beard science and Bad Science

Hi, All; I'm starting to grow out my beard. While I'm not quite looking for epic bearding, I do want the best looking beard possible. I've been watching a lot of youtube videos about beard maintenance and care, and some of the statements made sound too much like bad science. An example is beard oil. The claims made around these are that it replaces the natural oils your hair loses, and it hydrates your beard. These are leave-in products. The biggest red flag, to me, is your head hair and facial hair aren't massively different. And hair oils aren't as well known as like shampoo and ..read more

Hair care ingredients: Alkanes, plant extract, Living Libations

Hi, I have three part question all related to hair care: 1) I recently saw the ingredient C13-15 alkane as an ingredient in a leave-in conditioner. What is it and does it provide any hair conditioning benefit and is it similar to silicone? Does it cause build-up? 2) What is the difference between a plant oil and a plant extract? For example, in one John Masters De-tangler, it lists "Arnica Montana Flower Extract" and "Pelargonium Graveolens Oil." Do they both provide benefits to the hair? 3) I was curious about the Living Libations Seabuckthorn Shampoo, but it is expensive. Also, I d ..read more
