Carrot & Date Buckwheat Muffins

We’ve had our first frost here at the farm (actually quite a few at this point!) which means that the root veggies are extra sweet. A hard frost turns starches into sugars which is why fall root veggies are typically sweeter than their summer selves. Because it’s finally frosty in the mornings around here we aren’t getting out into the fields until quite a bit later in the morning. That’s not necessary a bad thing as it gives us a good excuse to drink an extra cup of coffee and spend the morning baking a simple breakfast as a family. These muffins are a new favorite as they highlight sweet fal ..read more

It is with absolute joy that I finally get to share with you the official cover of my upcoming cookbook “Let Them Eat Dirt.” A book dedicated to childhood nutrition, family traditions, and finding joy at the dinner table with your whole family. This book has been a true labor of love and after a year and a half of research, recipe testing, and a lot of dishes, I am in the final stretch of getting this book out into the world. It is being published by Page Street Publishing and is slated to be on bookstore shelves across the country in early July, 2023. This book was a complete “accident” as I ..read more

I am on a social media break at the moment so the only people who will be reading this post are those of you who subscribe to my blog. I’m actually happy about this smaller, more intimate group of folks who intentionally check in on this space. Instagram and Facebook have really flooded out these smaller spaces on the internet and I am trying something new which has felt good. Instead of posting everyday on a social media app and spending time scrolling through pages of random accounts, I have deleted those apps for the time being and have gained so much calm and quiet in my days.  It fe ..read more

Fresh Blueberry Rye Muffins

So I’m on a baking kick right now. Between all the fresh fruit and veggies available I have been craving sweet and savory baked goods. These blueberry muffins are absolutely divine and since I’ve got a fresh bag of rye flour to use up (have you tried the zucchini, date and rye bread yet?) I wanted to incorporate that into these muffins. These muffins are refined sugar free and only sweetened with dates and fresh blueberries. I’ve really loved sweetening things with dates since baking for my little girl. And while dates still contain plenty of natural sugar, they have lots of fiber which means ..read more

Zucchini, Date & Rye Bread

I’m sure we’re not the only ones swimming in a sea of zucchini during the month of August! And while I love a good savory zucchini recipe (like my “jammy summer squash pasta” or “zucchini butter“) a good old fashioned zucchini bread simply cannot be beat! The addition of rye flour lended a nice earthy flavor that complimented the other ingredients really well. This is a nice quick bread that I feel good about feeding my little toddler. We’ve sweetened this bread with dates (which not only add a lovely sweetness but are also a great source of fiber and won’t cause a sugar crash) and I couldn’t ..read more

Greek Yogurt Bark

We are experiencing a major heat wave here at the farm and anything that can offer a cool reprieve is more than welcome. This yogurt bark is a major hit with my little toddler and I have to say, I am pretty darn smitten with it too! This is one of those recipes that comes together quickly, only requires one bowl, and can be enjoyed all week long. Just break off a little piece and go to town! We sprinkled our bark with strawberries from the farm and homemade granola. However, you can choose to use any fresh fruit and crunchy topping that you wish. The topping is optional but I love the addition ..read more

Our CSA (community supported agriculture) is going off right now! We have 130 families who are a part of our farm this year and every week the veggie shares just get bigger and more diverse. Being a member of a CSA can be challenging for some people because you don’t have control over what goes into your box every week. However, it’s a great opportunity to explore and try veggies that you wouldn’t normally purchase at the grocery store.  This week our members are receiving big, beautiful heads of curly endive (also known as frisée) and I was inspired to make a simple dish that highlighted ..read more

Cold Noodle Pork Bowls with Almond-Sesame Date Sauce

It’s getting hot out here at the farm and this cold noodle pasta salad is a welcome and refreshing dish to have on hand. This dish uses up a lot of produce from the farm and is bursting with a ton of flavor from the almond-sesame sauce. The sauce is fun because it’s sweetened with dates, spicy from ginger and pepper flakes, and perfectly salty from a combination of coconut aminos and fish sauce. This is a great dish that I think the whole family will love and I am so glad it’s a hit with our toddler too! Serve this chilled or at room temperature and enjoy all week long! I hope you all love thi ..read more

If you’re looking for a tasty, seasonal and simple summer meal idea, look no further than this pasta salad!  This might be our family’s favorite meal at the moment. Our two-year-old can’t get enough and I love that you can meal prep this on a Sunday and have it for lunches or dinners all week long. We’re highlighting rainbow chard from the farm, chicken from our neighbors, and local cherries to make up the bulk of this meal. The whole dish is tossed in a creamy greek yogurt poppy seed dressing and is simply divine. Feel free to swap ingredients to make use of what’s local to you. This is ..read more
