An indie console game by the name of KungFu Kickball is now available for arcades. This bit of news should have been posted before the month switched over to June, but we’ll make up for the delay on my end with some juicy details. Let’s go! What Is KungFu Kickball? In case you hadn’t heard of this one, it’s a game released to the major consoles and PC a couple of years ago. The gameplay is something like Super Smash Bros. meets NBA Jam. The point is to kick a ball into the opposing team’s bell – all while being able to land punches & kicks in-between. Something about it reminds me of games ..read more

IAAPA Expo Asia 2024 is taking place from now until Thursday over in Bangkok, Thailand. Thanks to a couple of readers, we have some photos to share. Just note that I myself am not at this show, so I can’t answer any questions beyond what you’ll see below. That said, thanks to both Martin & Eric for sending me these pics! Before we get started, it’s important to note that there were not many games at the show. It seems to be geared more towards networking than selling product. That said, there were still a few items, so here we are: Chfuntek I had never heard of this company before, but th ..read more

A little over a year ago, certain North American rhythm game fans’ prayers were answered when out of nowhere, Taiko No Tatsujin by Bandai Namco Amusement appeared on surprise test at a Round1USA location. Today, we can say the same about another oft-requested arcade rhythm game out of Japan – this time, by Sega. Read on to find out more about the first USA location test of Maimai DX. As a location test of a pre-existing game, we can expect few (if any) changes if it does become a more permanent fixture one day – but please do note that this single test does not guarantee it will see wider depl ..read more

Arcade Heroes

The arcade pockets of the internet went crazy this past Friday, when Raw Thrills posted a teaser for a new basketball arcade game to their social media. It appeared to just be called “Super Star,” which then transpired to be a slight head fake. Some images of the game soon leaked out online, but I wanted to hold off from posting about it until I had the official blessing of Raw Thrills. Turns out that this came sooner than expected too, so now that it’s out there officially, we can say that NBA Superstars is the real name of the next game that is coming to us from Play Mechanix and Raw Thrills ..read more

Ask any long time pinball player about their favorite games, and chances are that Funhouse by Williams will come up at some point. Designed by Pat Lawlor and Larry DeMar, it was released right as pinball was starting to climb towards its lofty heights in the 90s. Given that it has been 34 years, its time for a refresher, which is what we are getting from a new company out of Italy called Pedretti Pinball. Let’s take a look. The Funhouse Remake If you’re new to the scene, no, this is not the first time a remake of a beloved classic has been done. Chicago Gaming has been particularly fond of rem ..read more

At the AAA’24 Expo that just wrapped up, Chinese company and AH advertisers Wahlap had a strong presence with several new games getting a reveal. This included a new gun game, an AR game, a multiplayer joystick game that vends cards, and more. Unfortunately, there was a photo/video prohibition on some of the games, like Monster Eye 3. Thanks to their website getting several updates however, we have cabinet shots of these new Wahlap titles, so let’s take a look and analyze: Monster Eye 3 Let’s start with one that was banned from photography – Monster Eye 3. It is no different than what was on t ..read more

The third and final day of AAA 2024 (the Asia Amusement & Attractions Expo 2024) has come, and with that we can wrap things up as we look at the best of the rest at the show. This includes some of the most notable companies outside of the ‘big two’ of Wahlap and UNIS, and a wide range of pieces from other manufacturers that interested Shinichi Ogasawara from Sega Amusements – who once more sent us much of the photos and information you see below – the most. We’ve said this more than enough by now, but a huge thanks to Oga-Shi for his efforts in reporting from the show floor. He’s a true Ar ..read more

The Asia Amusement & Attractions Expo (or AAA 2024) in Guangzhou, China, has now wrapped up its second of three days. So, let’s take a look at more new arcade games that may be hitting the West soon. Today’s post has a focus on UNIS, the other big Chinese amusement factory with many major links overseas. Like Wahlap they have appeared over a decade now in their own right at IAAPA, but their AAA lineup differs. As with companies in Japan, it has to fit the needs of their Eastern clientele.
