The 2018 Jim Cline Photo Tours Vietnam Explorer Photo Tour has been completed. Another amazing trip through a country full of fantastic photo opportunities. I’m including a selection of my favorite still images here. For this trip, I set my cameras to 16:9 aspect ratio so that any still photos or videos I created using the images would show on my computer screen (iMac) and my Sony Televisions, and fill the frame from edge to edge.  Shooting and composing images with such a wide viewpoint proved challenging at times, but I got used to it rather quickly and enjoyed “mixing things up a ..read more

With the holidays right around the corner, you might be wondering what to purchase that special traveling photographer in your life, or perhaps you’re thinking of treating yourself to something as the year draws to a close. Either way, I thought I’d offer up my personal list of ten efficient, useful and perhaps most importantly; compact & lightweight items that can make travel photography more enjoyable. I’d be preaching to the choir if I said that there’s nothing more rewarding and invigorating than a photo trip to some exotic location, and traveling with the lightest load possi ..read more

During our tour we visit the golden city of Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is named after its founder Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king in 1156 AD. “Jaisalmer” means “the Hill Fort of Jaisal”. Jaisalmer is sometimes called the “Golden City of India” because the yellow sand and the yellow sandstone used in every architecture of the city gives a yellowish-golden tinge to the city and its surrounding area. Jaisalmer has an imposing fort, built in 1156 by the Bhati Rajput ruler Jaisal, Jaisalmer. The famous Indian film director Satyajit Ray wrote a detective novel and later turned it into a film − Sonar ..read more

A selection of images in black and white from my recent Jim Cline Photo Tours, Pushkar trip, ending with some shots from the extension to Haridwar and Amritsar. Haridwar and Amritsar are like stepping into a totally different world, and the two locations remain among my favorite photography locations in all of India. Every evening, In Amritsar we visit the Golden Temple and do street photography in the old city. In Haridwar we witness “Aarti”, a Hindu puja ceremony is performed on the Ganges in Haridwar, followed by mornings spent doing photo walks in the area adjacent to our hotel, which ..read more

India: Pushkar Fair and the Taj Mahal Photo Tour 2017

During the first full moon of November, India’s Pushkar Fair, Asia’s largest camel and livestock market springs to life in the sleepy, picturesque, lakeside town of Pushkar. An ancient religious town, in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, provides an almost surreal backdrop for this unique event. Photographing the Pushkar Fair is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Few photo opportunities can match the volume or diversity of image possibilities. The Pushkar Fair is, in itself, enough to justify a photo expedition, but on my annual Jim Cline Photo Tours Pushkar Photo Tour  we also visit other fasc ..read more
