A few things you should know about me: I LOVE exploring new places. I plan at least one family trip to a place we have not skied before every season. During these explorations I am constantly on the lookout for that ideal location I could see us moving to one day. McCall, Idaho and Brundage Resort is the closest to “slam dunk” I’ve found when it comes to gorgeous mountains, easy access skiing, backcountry ski terrain, an adorable town, and a great summer vibe. If you have not skied at Brundage Mountain, Idaho, then you are in for a treat. Brundage Mountain Brundage Mountain is located 15-20 ..read more

Looking for a ski/snowboard area close to a major airport, where you can fill your hours lapping run after run instead of waiting in lines? Then you should consider Bogus Basin, Idaho. Located a 45 minute drive from Boise, ID, Bogus Basin boasts 2,600 acres of skiable terrain, more than Sun Valley, Idaho, without forfeiting a feel-good atmosphere more characteristic of the smaller local ski areas. Bogus Basin is also included in a unique subset of ski resorts that are non-profit owned and operated. Maybe this is why you feel at home immediately. You won’t find the impressive infrastructur ..read more

We’ve climbed, hiked, camped, skied, paddled and RVed across this continent and still have only scratched the surface. When asked what the best thing we’ve done in the last 10 years, I’d have ..read more

You can dig back in the archives of this site and see that I have been sharing a Word for my Year for almost as long as I’ve been writing. A dedicated hater of New Year’s resolutions, I long ago decided setting an intention worked better for me. I do believe that as we look forward, we need a goal, a roadmap, a purpose in getting where we want to be. And for many years these words have written my story, moved me across continents, and into both starting big projects and ending them. TRANQUIL. GRATITUDE. STIRRING. BALANCE. STEADY. PRESENT. PEOPLE. STREAMLINED. ENOUGH They have helped me figure ..read more

Camping and Hiking / Eastern Sierra Nevadas [Family Edition]

The Eastern Sierra Mountains, stretching from Lake Tahoe in the north to Death Valley in the south, are some of the most magnificent adventure grounds I’ve ever seen. This May we took two weeks to explore the region, hike, camp and visit some of the amazing hot springs we’ve heard so much about. What we weren’t expecting was how much snow blanketed the region. Many hikes were inaccessible, even roads to trailheads still hidden under 3-5 feet of snow! But that didn’t stop up from finding some amazing places to visit. Family Adventures in the Eastern Sierras Camping in the Alabama Hills Area T ..read more
