Or maybe just terrible ones. That works too.

Happy Hump day, fellow Small Predators!
Florida had us on preheat last week, but has apparently decided to put us back in the fridge for another week or so. (#Winning)
Anyhow, here is some sage advice. The more fervently someone swears a horse is bombproof, the further away you should run. This is because many people are ignorant about how poorly (or UN) trained their horse is. Also, horses sometimes like to make liars of us all. ?

All things considered, this cowboy got pretty lucky. It could have been much worse.
Monday already is the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment.
I’ve only ever done one roping clinic. It was fun, but it was hard. I fully admit that I cannot imagine being proficient at roping at speed from the back of a horse. Let alone when you actually have to catch a loose calf. And dodge trees. This all seems like a lot. I would like to say that if I ever attempted it, it would go a lot like this, but the reality is that it wo ..read more

As horse owners, colic is one of our worst nightmares. The causes vary and horses often present differently depending on their age and temperament. The resolution can range from minimal intervention to major surgery.
Fortunately, we can predict the causes of the most common types of colic. Here are three of the most common reasons your horse might colic.
1. Hay & Grain Changes

Changes in hay, including switching types or feeding a new cut, can increase a horse’s chances of developing colic by 10x. Grain changes, including changes in amount, type or brand, can cause a 5x increas ..read more

This is the second of a three-part series that explores what to look for when selecting a dressage horse. Today’s article focuses on the conformation that lends itself to a successful dressage horse.
You can catch up on the first installment of this series here.
Dressage training is supposed to be the process of training ANY horse to be a better riding horse. The more the horse learns, in theory, the easier it is to communicate with and therefore complete more complex tasks with. Although competition dressage training often is more focused on training for the dressage test, that is not w ..read more

Or maybe don’t. Her advice is terrible.
Presented by:
So, a long time ago, when I was still stuck out west in the land of winter and sadness, I did a few comics based on a mare I knew named Icee.
Icee had strong opinions. She may not have been a red dragon, but she was probably closely related to a kelpie at the very least. She was convinced humans were mostly worthless (she’s probably not all wrong). ?
Anyhow, I thought I would revive some of her rants. Fair warning not to share her advice with your equine kiddos.

“I don’t care if they’re put together with spare parts like people say they are. They have a heart of gold, and they will go to the ends of the earth for you.”
If you’re local to Maryland, you may recognize Ann Hanlin’s horse, Woodrow, thanks to his flashy black and white coat. But it’s not just his flashy colors that make this little horse special. Woodrow is a mustang, gathered at the age of eight years old, from the well-documented Salt Wells Creek HMA in Wyoming. Six years after being gathered as a wild stallion, Woodrow and Ann are competing at Novice level with plans to move up to Traini ..read more
