‘Oh Crap’ Monday: Shoot for the Stars
HORSE NATION

Monday already is the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment. It’s pretty safe to say this horse has some promise. I mean, it can definitely jump high… it just might need a little bit of focus. And, I don’t know, maybe some forward momentum in addition to that upward momentum. I’m no jumper, but something tells me this isn’t quite right. Maybe it’s the “oh crap” moment that results from the landing.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Equestrian (@equestrian_igcorner) Go forth ..read more

Training in the Right Way: What to Look for in a Dressage Horse, Part 4 — Exercises for the Imperfect Horse
HORSE NATION
by Gwyneth McPherson
42m ago
This final installment of the four-part series on choosing a dressage horse takes a closer look at how specific dressage exercises can be used to improve the ride-ability of a less-than-perfect horse. Catch up on the first, second, and third parts of this series.  Dressage training is supposed to be the process of training ANY horse to be a better riding horse. The more the horse learns, in theory, the easier it is to communicate with and therefore complete more complex tasks with. Although competition dressage training often is more focused on training for the dressage test, that is not ..read more

Can Slobbers Hurt Your Horse? Presented by Kentucky Performance Products
HORSE NATION
by DeAnn Sloan

Horses that have clover in their field often will develop slobbers, or excessive salivation. But is it dangerous? Read on for more. Photo courtesy of Kentucky Performance Products Excessive salivation in a horse can be dramatic when it appears as a bubbly or foamy mouth with strings of drool leading to a puddle on the barn floor. When it’s caused by “clover slobbers,” it’s a nuisance that’s not usually life-threatening, but it is worth monitoring for the risk of dehydration, colic, and other potential issues. Horse owners whose pastures contain clover, particularly red clover, often will hav ..read more

On Secretariat, the G.O.A.T.: A Response to Jason Kelce
HORSE NATION
by DeAnn Sloan

Secretariat is largely acknowledged as the G.O.A.T. when it comes to horse racing. He set the bar against which we measure all race horses. On a recent podcast and in social media posts, Jason Kelce indicated that the horse “was being juiced.” HorseDoc Gregory Beroza replies. Secretariat, 31-lengths ahead at the Belmont Stakes. Photo by Bob Coglianese, and part of the G. Beroza collection. As many who follow horse racing — and football! — know, former Eagles center Jason Kelce recently made comments that he believes the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time, for not in the know) of horse racing, Secr ..read more

Those flies will never know what the heck hit them. Here at Horse Nation, we really like to pass along products that we believe in to our fellow equestrians. This definitely is one of those products! We all know that fly spray can come up a bit short our expectations. Whenever I read the label and see how long it’s supposed to last, I think, “On which flies? Certainly not the ones that plague my horses.” So that’s why when we started using EcoVet we were THRILLED with the results. It — gasp! — actually works. So much so that one of our Horse Nation contributors felt the need to ..read more

Celebrity Equestrians: Kendall Jenner

In a new Vogue feature, the supermodel details her lifetime of loving horses. “I started riding pretty much before I can remember. I was probably two when I first sat on a horse and maybe four when I took my first lesson,” Kendall told Vogue. The first horse she rode was named Sweet Pea, a horse that lived two doors down and often came to visit. “It’s like something I did in my childhood that I loved so much. As an adult now, coming back to it is almost, like, nostalgic.” Kendall also states that riding is therapeutic for her, and she loves being outdoors. “It’s just something you’ve gotta fe ..read more

Thursday Video: Synchronized Jumping
HORSE NATION

This horse and rider pair might have invented a new sport. Seriously, though. We think this could definitely be a competition. There’s synchronized swimming and hobby horse shows. This is sort of a combination of those two things… without the swimming or the stick horse. Still… we think this sport has a future. It might also offer some job security to a lot of orthopedic surgeons (as if equestrians weren’t already large contributors to that cause).   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Zeeshan Shahid (@legend07zee) Happy Thursday, Horse Nation.
