My name is Katie, and I have voluntarily involved grandparents. I don’t take this privilege lightly, of course. My mom is a text away if I need to run a quick errand. They’re always willing to take my daughter for a night if I feel burned out and overwhelmed. Plus, they love her. She is their entire world. They are voluntarily and happily involved in my daughter’s life. They love being grandparents.
One mom would say that my situation is the “ultimate flex” when it comes to being a parent.

I worked hard to curb my expectations and prepare for our first Walt Disney World experience as a family. I had a pretty clear vision of how the whole thing would go for my family of six, and with that, I did my due diligence to mentally and physically prepare. I covered everything from ride expectations to cool Disney ‘fits.
But guess what? Like everything else in motherhood, nothing went exactly as I envisioned. In fact, our Disney experience was widely different than I anticipated. And thank God — because the result was better than I ..read more

Dating as a young woman in today’s world can be fraught, to say the least. And really, even going out at all as a woman can come with its dangers if you aren’t aware and careful (and sometimes even still). As moms, to kids of all genders, many of us feel a great responsibility — and great anxiety — about our young adult children entering the dating world while keeping safe and finding a kind person to have a healthy relationship with.
And sometimes, there’s just a little, concrete sign that things could be going in the right direction.
That was the case when one mom got a picture h ..read more

It's hard to put into words just how massive Walt Disney World Resort is. Located on 43 square miles, the property is as big as some cities. The resort is home to four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping and dining complex, and more than 25 hotels that are just Disney-owned properties.
But, while there are plenty of Disney World hotels to stay at, they aren't your only option when visiting the Most Magical Place on Earth. Orlando is the theme park capital of the world, so it should come as no surprise that there are countless properties in the area ..read more

Chaperoning a kid’s field trip is a right of passage for parents. You pack snacks, bandaids, and sunscreen and do your best to be the “cool parent” for your kid amongst the teachers and other admins who are on the trip. I remember always wanting to be with the “cool mom” chaperone on field trips because she would buy her group ice cream and was pretty lax on rules yet did an amazing job of keeping everyone in line. I want to be that mom!
And while that’s all well and good, one teacher has a gripe to pick with parents who are willing to help out with a class field trip — st ..read more

Netflix is making the entire month of May feel like Mother’s Day. In addition to just the right amount of new kid-friendly content, this month brings the Season 3 premiere of Bridgerton, “mom-com” Mother of the Bride starring Brooke Shields and Chad Michael Murray, and the long-awaited addition of Outlander Season 6 to the streamer’s library. In short, there are plenty of reasons to send the kids outside to play in all the extra sunshine May is sure to bring.
But in addition to all of the content you’ll want to watch yourself, Netflix is serving up shows and movies that children of ..read more

What I’m about to say might seem impossible if you’re deep in the little-kid trenches, held hostage by their favorite TV shows. But it’s true: I long for the time when we — my husband and two young sons — would sit around the TV together watching Wild Kratts. It started for us when my youngest son was 3, and my older son was 5, or thereabouts. And it started with the PBS show (which we streamed on Amazon) and quickly morphed into a love of their books, too. For a time there, I felt a deep kinship to the Kratt brothers. And I miss them, big time.
It helps that they got us through the pandemic ..read more
