It’s one thing to love golf and another to be good at it. If your dad struggles with distance off the tee, three-putts most greens and/or posts double bogeys more frequently than pars, you came to the right place. These are the best Father’s Day gifts for the man who isn’t the greatest golfer but still loves the game. Here’s an added bonus: If you save him a few strokes, you’ll quickly move to “favorite kid” status.  GrooveIt Brush The GrooveIt club cleaning brush is a simple accessory that works really well. It has heavy-duty nylon bristles that clean grooves. If your dad takes a little ..read more

Direct-To-Consumer Golf Grows Up
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog

The direct-to-consumer golf equipment movement finds itself in an interesting moment in time as we head into June. History shows us that while some things change, others mutate. The DTC world is somewhere in between.  Let’s say it’s “maturing.” Growing up, if you will. What started as golf’s version of trite marketing phrases like “factory-direct pricing” and “cutting out the middleman” now is something quite different and significantly more meaningful. While DTC won’t be toppling the Big Five OEMs anytime soon, it’s certainly giving the likes of you and me more choices at lower prices.&n ..read more

How to Better Your Game with Practice
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog
by Jason Noble

We all know someone who spends countless hours on the driving range hitting golf balls. They talk about how they are “grinding” to improve but rarely does it correlate to lower scores on the course. The reason? There’s a BIG difference between hitting balls on the range and practicing. Anyone can head to the driving range and mash golf balls till their hands hurt but to truly improve, practice sessions need to be focused and performed with the intent of honing your swing and skills. Building and sticking to a consistent practice routine may help you improve your ball striking, lower your score ..read more

Golf Shoe 101: Do Materials Matter?
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog
by Connor Lindeman

A few months ago I wrote about the new adidas S2G: a $110 spikeless shoe made primarily from leather. What I didn’t know at the time was that adidas offered the same shoe, sans leather, for $10 less. The “normal” S2G is made from ripstop rather than leather. This discovery has led me on a journey that I’m happy to share with you. The goal? Tofind the answer to this burning question: Do materials make a difference? Put a different way: given the choice between the two shoes of differing material construction, which is best? For golf footwear specifically, I’ve always gravitated towards real mat ..read more

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max Driver

Callaway Golf just announced the Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max driver, which should easily win Driver of the Year—in the “Most Letters” category.   It’s a mouthful.  It also risks introducing some confusion by way of the apparent contradiction between the Triple Diamond and Max nomenclature, though I’d be more inclined to argue that, character count notwithstanding, the name is entirely on the nose.  Neither 100 percent Triple Diamond nor 100 percent Max, the Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver sits somewhere between the two. Perhaps it blends the best of both, tho ..read more

How the Three Main Types of Putting Green Grasses Could Affect Your Short Game
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog
by John Kennedy

The next time you line up a putt, pay attention to the grass. Get down and look at it. Touch it. Smell it. Listen to it. Dare we say… taste it? All right, so we can’t actually recommend you do any of that but our point is that the type of grass on the green can affect how your ball rolls. Being able to identify what’s between your ball and the hole could be the advantage you need. Generally, putting greens are covered by one of three grasses: Bermuda grass, bentgrass or Poa annua. Courses in warmer areas, like the southern United States, usually use Bermuda grass while those in cooler places t ..read more

Admit It—You’re Becoming A Bryson Fan
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog

The best (and one of the only) compliments I can give LIV is the positive effect the league has on Bryson DeChambeau. Bryson had became something of a pariah on the PGA Tour, and it was a well-earned distinction. He repeatedly proved his selfishness and lack of self-awareness, whether it was unfairly blaming manufacturers, calling Augusta National a par-67 or giving nonsensical lessons in pseudo physics. Fans may have respected his willingness to think about golf in a unique way, but the respect didn’t go much further than that. He came across as an immature know-it-all who was a serious golfe ..read more

What If L.A.B. Golf is Right?
MyGolf Spy Forum - Golf Blog

If you’re even the least bit familiar with L.A.B. Golf and its putters, there are a couple of things you probably know.  The shapes are unconventional. (I’m being diplomatic).  The fitting methodology as explained by the company’s signature “Revealer” apparatus is different from the golf industry’s standard operating procedure.  And, if I’ve pieced things together correctly, the former to no small degree necessitates the latter.  I guess you could say L.A.B. putters are weird because weird is what makes them work.  It’s an interesting concept but does any of this sugge ..read more

About The Testing Opportunity MyGolfSpy Forum staff selected 30 members to participate in a detailed testing of Bridgestone’s new Mindset golf ball with the goal of providing comprehensive feedback on their experiences. The evaluation focused on key aspects from data collected from their Shot Scope devices. (Shot Scope is the official on-course data partner of MyGolfSpy.) Some of these data points were driving performance, fairway accuracy, greens in regulation and putting efficiency. Subjective feedback, such as overall satisfaction compared to their usual golf balls, was also solicited.  ..read more
