Burkhard Pohl, the Swiss-German owner of one of the world’s biggest collections of private fossils, is making a major gift to help rebuild the holdings of the National Museum of Brazil. In accepting Pohl’s donation of more than 1,100 fossils that include dinosaurs, turtles, plants, insects and flying reptiles, the museum is kickstarting a campaign ahead of its planned 2026 reopening to restore what was lost. Was ‘Poolman’ Written With Crayons? Chris Pine Is a Hunk, Not a Director
Observer
by Rex Reed

During its catastrophic impact on the film industry, the recent Covid shutdowns and union strikes put a lot of actors out of work, driving them to change career goals and create their own projects—never a good idea if you ask me. Now, the results of all that desperation are polluting marquees everywhere while the world waits for the panic to return to normal. The worst offense among many is a horror called Poolman, a stinker that marks the hopeless directorial debut of Hollywood heartthrob Chris Pine, who also wrote the idiotic screenplay. It was shot in 22 days and looks it. Not only is it t ..read more

The minimalist London home of the late financial trader Ralph Goldenberg was always intended to house art. This summer, the spirit of the iconic three-story house will be recreated by Sotheby's as it gears up to sell around eighty works from Goldberg’s collection. In a forest of teetering, overburdened movie franchises, Planet of the Apes stands as a mighty oak. Where other sprawling sagas spread themselves thin, wear out their welcome, or recycle the same characters and ideas again and again, the Apes series slowly but consistently grows in new directions and reaches new heights. Since its 2011 reboot, Planet of the Apes has been an anomaly amidst big-budget studio tentpoles, emphasizing drama over action and utilizing digital performance capture technology in the service of great acting and complicated characters. Now, after a seven-year hiatus, a ne ..read more
