I’m dabbling with plein air painting on camping trips. I’m a long time camper, love painting as a hobby and thought it’d be fun to combine the two. I’ve been trying to keep my kit minimal - large freezer sized ziplock with my acrylic paint tubes, brushes, palette, rag, postcard canvas and a bottle for water. I stuff it into the front mesh compartment in my pack.
Any artist x campers out there? Would love your recommendations to see what you bring and how you pack it ?

Had a struggle to take my backpack off and this part came off after I pulled it... It looks like I can put it back, but I don't really know how. And I'm going to camp tonight ? Any advice?

Currently in a random train station in chiasso switzerland with my friend. We’re both girls and we’re sitting near 3 homeless people/randos who are taking up the only bench in the whole station and our train won’t be here for another 3 hours and it’s 2:45am. The bathrooms are locked, and a man just peed on the floor in the corner. There is absolutely nothing in this train station. I’m laying on the cold floor with my backpack as a pillow cuz we got here at 2 and our backs hurt so bad. The only reason I’m in this circumstance is because I didn’t book a reservation on eurail with my pass t ..read more

I took my old external frame backpack from the 1990's on a short backpacking trip this week. It fit like a glove and felt easier to carry than my more modern backpack! I don't think I've actually used this for a trip since the 1990's but it is still in great shape. The only thing I had a problem with was the mesh back panel really made a lot of noise with each step. It has a tightening strap and it is tight, I just think the nylon or whatever it's made of is old and the mesh must be squeaking as it rubs against itself? Parts are nonexistant, plus they would be old anyway. Wondering if the ..read more

I've been slowly planning to backpack across Japan for a little while, and among other things have been increasing my daily steps to help acclimate for the task of hiking across a country. It's not going to be for a while (read as: this is not a last ditch attempt of 'get in shape a week before the flight') and I was wanting to know how much I should shoot for daily to help prep my cardio and endurance for this. Right now I'm shooting for a minimum 10 miles with a weighted vest and will add more once I comfortably build up to that, but I was wondering how far you guys comfortably hike a day o ..read more

Doing my first overnight trip! Hitting up Alander Mountain near Taconic state park for a 14 mile loop over 2 days. Water and food are not pictured, as well as a first aid kit. I know less is better, but I still feel underprepared as far as gear. Anything I'm missing?

Hello, I will be in Vietnam next year in April for 26 days and I am currently thinking about how much money I need to save until then.
Already fixed costs:
Flights from Germany to Hanoi + back: 450€
Accommodation: 200€
Ha Giang Easy Rider Tour: 180€
Cat Ba Day Tour: 40€
Phong Nha Cave Tour: 80€
I roughly added up the bus and train rides at 12go, which gives me a total of around 160€.
Then I need a flight from Da Lat to Hanoi, which currently costs 130€, can I expect this to get cheaper in the next few months? And is there a flight on this route every day?
Now I just need to know how much mone ..read more
