Review by VianaProghead — Review N 773 Tako was a Yugoslavian progressive rock band formed in 1974, in the days when Yugoslavia was a Communist country. Despite the clear differences between Yugoslavia and the other European Eastern Countries, Yugoslavia was a Communist country that always pretended to be more open and democratic to promote and encourage West World to expand its economy via a growing tourist industry. There was a side effect that leaded to a proliferation in music and in the arts in general. But, naturally, with such a state as Yugoslavia, it was essentially bands that we c ..read more

Review by memowakeman — Review originally published at www.therocktologist.com When two prolific and creative minds gather, the chances of having an interesting experience increase, and that's what happens here, in Rubicon II, the second album of that Rubicon series that talented musicians Kevin Kastning and Mark Wingfield started some years ago. Released some days ago via Greydisc, this record features 6 long tracks that were recorded live in studio, back in 2018, so it is great to see it finally saw the light. In this album the two musicians provide a creative mixture of multi-layered s ..read more

CAUSA SUI Pewt'r Sessions 2 (Psychedelic/Space Rock, 2011)

Review by Mellotron Storm — 4.5 stars. CAUSA SUI are a Danish band who have been releasing albums since 2005. On their first two albums they had a singer and I haven't heard those. Then they did a trio of albums called "Summer Sessions" with no vocals but a guest sax player and a trippy, ambient sound overall. These "Pewt'r Sessions" were next and they are also a trio of albums but these are more Krautrock themed, quite dark and heavy at times in the GILA style. The one constant with this band is the trio of Munk, Kahr and Skott but here we also get two keyboardists who add mostly atmospheres ..read more

KING CRIMSON Live In Toronto (Eclectic Prog, 2016)

Review by Mellotron Storm — I have enough live KING CRIMSON records but the appeal to get this was twofold. It's in Toronto the closest major city to where I live and where I've seen almost all of my music concerts. Also after seeing some video of this band with the three drummers this just interested me. It just seems so bizarre to me to have even more than one drummer let alone three of them no matter who they are. It works though and it's so prog isn't it? Looking back at all the musicians and singers Fripp has hired it's hard to question him on any of them but personally when Jakko Jakszy ..read more

Review by alainPP — 1 Vert well we will have to remember that the album is almost 50 years old; for France I would say Pierre Vassiliu for the lightness, for the pop, jazzy orchestration and bits of the famous Supertramp, yes interesting with these choirs... and the voice in French comes across really well; the flute in the finale accompanies the bass for a bucolic air 2 Dixie for the cheerful country western air, bar piano which plays its notes and the clarinet from the interwar period; you'd think it was, you're looking for the lady behind the counter to spend the evening in good company; 3 ..read more

Review by UMUR — "Tyranny" is the third full-length studio album by US progressive metal act Shadow Gallery. The album was released through Magna Carta Records in September 1998. Its the successor to "Carved In Stone" from 1995 and features one lineup change since the precessor as drummer Kevin Soffera has been replaced by Joe Nevolo. "Tyranny" is a concept album release in two acts, which are subdivided into shorter tracks. Each act features 7 sub tracks. The plot of the concept is a conspiracy story involving a love story and covered up government weapons sales. Several times throughout t ..read more

Review by siLLy puPPy — Perhaps no other band in the entire history of prog underwent an evolution as lightning fast through the course of three albums in rapid succession as Italy's JUMBO did in only two years. JUMBO recorded and released these three distinct albums in the early 70s which began with the rather uninspiring display of blues rock, followed by a much more dedicated prog album before taking a massive leap in creative ingenuity with its third and final offering VIETATO AI MINORI DI 18 ANNI? which has become known as one of the all-time masterpieces of the 70s prog scene. This is ..read more

Review by siLLy puPPy — POTEMKINE formed in Toulouse, France early in 1971 and started like many bands simply playing covers of English rock bands like The Rolling Stones and Deep Purple. Initiated by brothers Charles and Gilles Goubin, together the two acquired a taste for the jazz rock and fusion explorations of bands like the Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Miles Davis but residing in France was also exposed to the underground sensation Magma who brought the wild world of zeuhl into existence. After many years of stumbling around eventually POTEMKINE found a true band formation wi ..read more

IQ Are You Sitting Comfortably ? (Neo-Prog, 1989)

Review by Hector Enrique — "Nomzamo" had already embodied a stylistic mutation in IQ's musical approach, largely shedding the languishing progressive structures of the second half of the 80's for a more digestible and commercially friendly orientation in which legends such as Yes (Big Generator) and Genesis (Invisible Touch) were also immersed, and which the band's fourth album, 1989's "Are You Sitting Comfortably?", ratified. Although Martin Orford's futuristic opening keyboards accompanied by Mike Holmes' delicate acoustic notes on the persistent and critical "War Heroes" give it an inter ..read more

CASTANARC Rude Politics (Neo-Prog, 1988)

Review by Mellotron Storm — 2.5 stars. CASTANARC are a Neo Prog band out of the UK and they released three studio albums in the 80's then one in '98 before going doormat then returning with a compilation album in 2020 before a return with a new studio album in 2021. I have their first two and prefer the debut to this one. Mine has a different cover art and they also changed the track order on the re-issue and Discogs calls this release a cdr. You could say this is more mainstream than the debut but the biggest disappointment is the 80's drum machine they use. They also program bass patterns a ..read more
