How saying ‘yes’ can lead to your next chapter

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed on The Wabi Sabi series podcast, hosted by Michelle Cox on “Finding your genius”. Michelle actually invited me on to her podcast quite a while ago but I delayed getting back to her because, to be honest, I wondered whether I had anything interesting or worthwhile to say! She starts with a single question and then the conversation unfolds – and goes deep – from there. Michelle is a super talented ceramicist (and board director and author and a billion other things) so I loved chatting to her. Enjoyment vs Strategy

It’s been a big year of changes for me lately. I’ve moved house to Bayview in the northern beaches in Sydney. And I’m now painting out of a new studio, at the wonderful Atelier 9 Avalon. I must admit, both moves have been great for my psyche, productivity and creativity. I’m getting more done in less time and feel far more inspired than I have been in a quite while. Others might say it’s play. Yet others may think it’s a complete waste of time, because we’re not getting down to the ..read more

A while back, I visited an office where I was considering subleasing a space. It was stark, grey and devoid of any art. I knew straight away that it wouldn’t work for me. The main lessee – let’s call him John – said: “I like to keep the office environment free of distractions so that people can concentrate on their work.” To me, it looked more like a prison cell than an office. Of course, I didn’t sign up to lease from John. I’ve also been to cubicle farms in multi-national corporations that are little more than grey boxes with a few partitions separating workers from each other. These types ..read more

She’s now a business leader, veteran publisher and board director of various major organisations. One of her initiatives is Tonic magazine, appealing to the generation of Dolly readers who are now facing a whole different set of issues decades on. Here’s our chat.
