Ramming Speed: Meet the 2025 Ram RHO
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey

The 2025 Ram 1500 I drove earlier this year no longer offers a TRX model. We knew, however, that Ram wouldn't go long without offering a high-performance trim. Enter the 2025 Ram RHO We knew this both because it's not very Ram-like to not offer something with plenty of power, and because Ram folks hinted at it during the Ram press launch. Now we know the details. The highlights here are the specs. Under the RHO's hood is a 3.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane inline-six cylinder that makes 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. Ram is promising a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds, with the quarter-mile ..read more

QOTD: Will An Affordable EV Help You Go Electric?
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey
11h ago
Today we covered Tesla's back-and-forth on whether it will or won't build an affordable EV. One of the biggest reasons not to purchase an EV that I hear is that the MSRP of most EVs is too high, even considering tax credits. Does that ring true? Or, if you're EV hesitant, is it because of some other factor or factors, such as range, driving experience, lack of charging infrastructure, et cetera? In other words, will the availability of cheaper EVs make you pull the trigger on an EV? If it helps, take Tesla out of the equation and think about a $25K EV sold by Ford or GM or Honda or whoever ..read more

Would You Rather? Honda CR-V vs Toyota RAV4
The Truth About Cars
by Matt Posky
11h ago
We’re introducing a new segment where we intentionally pit two vehicles against each other that are exceedingly difficult to choose between. The idea is to create a would-you-rather situation where we compare the strengths and weaknesses of both models and take input from our readers. Our first match-up is an incredibly tough one, because these are some of the best-selling vehicles in all of North America that aren’t pickup trucks — the Honda CR-V vs the Toyota RAV4. This sixth generation of the Honda CR-V arrived in 2023, making it quite a bit fresher than the fifth-generation of the Toyota ..read more

Tesla May License FSD to Other Automakers - Maybe
The Truth About Cars
by Chris Teague
15h ago
Tesla recently slashed the price of its Full Self-Driving assistance feature, and it now appears the automaker is taking steps to expand its reach to other OEMs. CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed the move, saying Tesla was in talks with at least one “major automaker” about a licensing deal for the tech. This isn’t the first time Musk has hinted at plans to license FSD, but nothing has come of the alleged discussions so far. If it moves forward, the deal could help other automakers compete against Ford, General Motors, and Mercedes-Benz, which offer well-established competitors to FSD. Even i ..read more

The company recently announced an expansion to its U.S. dealer network, giving it stores in several new areas and growing its footprint to 18 dealerships in seven states. VinFast added 12 stores, with new dealerships in Connecticut and Kentucky, five new locations in Florida, and four in Texas. Maybe Tesla Didn't Cancel the Affordable EV After All, Or Did It?
The Truth About Cars
by Chris Teague
19h ago
Following Tesla has always been a whiplash-inducing experience. The will they, won’t they themes continue in 2024, as the automaker recently reversed its reported decision to nix affordable EV plans, though the flip appears related to less-than-stellar first-quarter performance. Tesla’s first-quarter net income dropped a whopping 55 percent to $1.1 billion, and revenue tumbled nine percent. After facing what it said were logistics challenges related to conflicts in the Middle East, protests at its German Gigafactory, and the slow ramp-up of the new Model 3’s production, the automaker’s inves ..read more

Geländewagen, Electrified: Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology
The Truth About Cars
by Matthew Guy
1d ago
Electrification has crept like a static-filled blanket over the Mercedes shop floor, consuming just about every major model in a wide variety of segments in which the German automaker is present – although it must be said that, for now, there are plenty of gassers from which to select. Most rightly predicted an electrified G would retain the popular boxy looks for which it is known. What we can’t fathom, however, is its official name: Why not simply EQG? Surely there is a marketing group armed with focus group data deep in the bowels of Stuttgart who can answer that question with an appropri ..read more

QOTD: How Have Car Maintenance Costs Been For You?
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey

Yesterday we reported on a Consumer Reports story listing the most expensive and least expensive car brands in terms of maintenance. This, plus a Wall Street Journal article from February that details the high cost of car ownership, have me curious. What has your experience been like? If you are a multi-car, multi-brand household, is one brand costing you more than the other? If you've been loyal to one brand, does the cost of ownership play a part? Did you switch from one brand to another and notice a difference? And so on, and so forth. You know the drill -- sound off below. [Image: J.J. G ..read more
