The forecast was for rain all over the country this weekend and if we weren't still waiting to move into our new house we'd have stayed at home in the warm and dry but we thought we'd attempt a walk anyway. We decided to head over to Saddleworth area and hopefully attempt a couple of walks. We set off on the Wriggle@Diggle series and after a very short distance we were battling with heavy rain and high winds, it really wasn't pleasant, the views were amazing so we were keen to press on but the walk became hard going so we headed back to the van for coffee and shortbread - yum yum. We'd spotte ..read more

SATURDAY The forecast for this weekend was for a wet start to Saturday so we decided to take a trip over to Redbrick Mill to have a look at dining tables and lighting - not very exciting but ideal for a wet Saturday morning. Luckily by the time we left the shop and had a coffee in the van the rain stopped and the sun came out so we headed over to Crow Nest park in Dewsbury to do a set of Adventure labs. The autumn colour was stunning against the backdrop of a beautiful blue sky. After this we headed to Oakwell Country Park for another set of Adventure labs.    Oakwell ..read more

A Weekend in Bowness on Windermere

It's been quite a while since we were up in the Lakes.  The intention was to get a few more weekends in at the end of the summer for SUPing but Charlie injured his paw and he had to stay out of water so hopefully I can get a few days in before the Spring.  The forecast was for rain this weekend so we decided to plan a couple of low-level walks around Windermere. We started the day with a walk up to Orrest Head.  Orrest Head is the first fell that Alfred Wainwright climbed and is the subject of a chapter of the book Wainwright's Outlying Fells of Lakeland. A stone at t ..read more

FRIDAY We finally set off on our holiday today, nothing is ever straightforward is it....  Rewind back to late August. We'd originally planned to take two weeks off for our house move which should've been September but due to building supply shortages it was put back to October.  About 2 weeks later we heard that it had been put back to November so we decided to book a week off work to make the most of the late summer and then take a week when we move.  Then catastrophe struck, on a summer evening walk, Charlie, our black lab, injured his paw very badly and to cut a very ..read more

A Mega Week in Lincolnshire

This post is about our Mega week in Lincolnshire and some of the caches that we did throughout the week. After last year's Piratemania and UK Mega events had to be cancelled we were hoping that they would be able to go ahead this year.  We booked a week off work and kept our fingers crossed.  We also booked a campsite in Market Rasen, to fit in between the two weekends of the mega events.  As the week approached we realised that we'd forgotten all about booking camping at the events.  The requirement was to book a minimum of 3 nights at Piratemania and unfortunately that di ..read more

Friday The forecast was for a great weekend weather-wise so we couldn't resist another trip up to The Lakes.  As it was so busy last weekend we thought we'd head out to the western part of the Lake District National Park and although it does get quite busy it's a more remote than the main tourist spots. The plan was to spend the weekend kayaking and SUPing on the lake with a nice low-level walk in Nether Wasdale on Saturday afternoon.   By the time we arrived at Wast Water on Friday evening quite a few of the day trippers were just leaving and we were able to find a s ..read more

The forecast this weekend was for sunshine and clear skies in The Lakes so we decided to head back up and tackle the hike we'd planned for last Saturday but had turned back due to the heavy rain. We parked up at the National Trust car park at the top of Honister Pass.  Dale Head stands at 2470 ft (754m) but given that we are starting from an elevation of 1167ft (356m) we only have just over 1300 feet to climb.  Doesn't sound too bad when you say it quickly ?. We set off at 7:10 and the sun was already quite intense but we hoped to get the walk finished by midday. The walk starts in ..read more

It's great to be able to get away at weekends again in our campervan, we've really missed it. The forecast wasn't good for this weekend, with rain showers all weekend but we decided to go for it anyway, we've been cooped up long enough. I wanted to pop into one of the shops at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet first thing before they got too busy so we had an early start to get there for 9am. While we were there we did the multi from 2008. Not sure why we didn't notice it on our last visit a few years ago. Charlie keeping watch while I looked for the cache. Next stop was Port Sunlight ..read more

Can't believe it's been so long since I last wrote a blog. We haven't really done much in the way of travelling due to lockdown but we have been really busy moving house. We spent every weekend of the first lockdown decorating then in October we put the house on the market and quickly got a buyer. We moved into a rented house to speed up the process and are currently renting a house until our new house has been built in the Ribble Valley which should be around September/October. Moving house was far from easy during lockdown. We really struggled to find a house to rent short term and o ..read more

This is becoming a bit of a habit ?  The forecast wasn't great for this weekend but as there was some hope of sunshine we thought we'd head back up to The Lakes and bag a few Wainwrights and fit in a spot of SUPing on Saturday night. Friday Decided to head up to The Lakes straight after work on Friday ready for an early start tomorrow. As it was such a gorgeous sunny evening we decided to walk up to Knott Rigg from Newlands Hause. A straightforward walk up to the ridge with fantastic views of the hause and over to Moss Force waterfall and down the Newlands Valley to Buttermere ..read more
