Finally got the inside of this quilt sewn together.  I will be adding a couple of borders after I do the quilting.  As I no longer have any batting here, it will wait until I head south.  I am pretty pleased with the result.  I found that I really didn't like surrounding the blocks with anything other than white but compromsed on the border. I brought a bunch of unmade blocks back from the south figuring I would work on them here -- actually two good sized boxes full!  I have l looked everywhere but can't find a picture of the fabric from which these blocks came.  My first though was to alternate these three color borders along with a couple of other fabrics I had.  These borders are all from my hand dyes, I didn't like how the above looked so decided I would just border with the light  purple and green and make all the blocks in the middle white.  I had 30 blocks altogether so the arrangement will be 5 ..read more

  I cut up a bunch of fabric when I was down South for stack and whack blocks which I would put together up here.  One of our quilt club members is collecting 24 x 36 inch sized quilts for the Neonatal unit at the local hospital so I figured I had enough leftover batting to make a few.   I had a ton of these blocks.  I have over 50 more blocks to finish so may make those into a bigger quilt top which I will take back with me.  The guild in the South provides backing which the one  up here does not and I spent enough on the fabric to not want to spend a lot m ..read more

 Stack and Whack This is a technique first introduced by Bethany Reynolds probably 25 years ago more or less.  It is a short-cut method of creating kaladoscopic blocks by cutting and stacking fabrics after you have determined what the repeat is by looking along the selvedge of the fabric. Another baby quilt of truly leftover fabrics.  It's not too bad!  I am trying to use up random baggies of 4 patches and 2 1/2 squares that were just sitting there as I always overachieve when cutting pieces for a quilt.  Needs borders, quilting and binding.   We presented two Quils of Valor at this meeting.  This was one of he veterans and he was obviously touched. This one was presented to a 99 year old woman who was a Navy nurse in WWII.  It was very touching and I was glad I had made a top for his cause (in my last blog). This was made for Habitat for Humanity, another group we support with quilts. There were lots of beautiful quilts at the meeting. This was a temperature quilt! She made this doll in a class. I was inspired to make a Quilt of Valor quilt by our speaker and so picked up a couple of fat quarters of patriotic fabric as I have none.  I found a pattern on Facebook that I liked and that I thought would be appropriate.  This is the finished top.  I am going to let someone else do the quilting as it is pretty big and I wasn't comfortable with doing it. Our members have obviously been very busy this last month as there were a lot of quilts for show and tell!   This was made as part of an exchange.
