I try not to pick favorites when it comes to Summer Sampler quilt blocks, but I do especially love the Cross Churn block, designed by Megan Lopez of The Athena Workshop. Based on the classic Churn Dash quilt block, I think I could make an entire quilt of of this one. This technique involves making some split quarter square triangle (SQST) units. Our 8th Summer Sampler 2021 quilt along block is Melted Melamine, designed by Ben Millett! Melted Melamine is inspired by the classic Broken Dishes quilt block. I think it’s safe to say, this was the most challenging block of the quilt along for me. I’ve never sewn an orange peel block before. I feel pretty comfortable with curves…but something about those double curves just made it a bit harder! But that’s exactly why I love these annual samplers - I am always learning new skills.
