I was recently a finalist in the ‘Most Dedicated Food Blogger’ category at the Scotsman Food & Drink Awards. I didn’t win, instead the award deservedly went to Foodie Explorers Emma and Mark who are incredibly dedicated in their mission to seek out the best food they can find, then report back to their followers. Apart from catching up with those guys and meeting the lovely Julia Bryce, a fellow finalist who runs her food blog Just Julia as well as Society Aberdeen, an Aberdeen-focussed lifestyle magazine, I also got the chance to meet Roy Brett, head chef and owner of Ondine, an awar ..read more

When the hugely talented Sabrina Ghayour released her fabulous book Feasts, I immediately did as I always do with her books…flick through it to find her latest aubergine recipes. This girl knows what to do with an aubergine! However, I stopped in my tracks when I saw this recipe for her Peach, Lime & Pistachio Polenta Cake. Doesn’t it look pretty? I had a friend coming round for dinner that night and I had most of the ingredients in my kitchen already so I cracked on and got baking! This cake serves 8-10 people and is pretty strightforward to make. It also refrigerates well if you want t ..read more

MY FAVOURITE DISHES IN GLASGOW
A Spoonful Of Sugar

When you live in a city, its very easy to become a creature of habit, especially with your eating habits. This is one of the reasons I love writing a food blog…it pushes me to make more of an effort to try new places and new dishes. However, there are always certain places, and indeed certain dishes that keep pulling me back in. I find I get a lot of people messaging me saying they’re coming to Glasgow and asking where they should go to eat. Not only am I happy to pass on my recommendations of restaurants I love, but I always find myself telling people the best things on the menu to order. I’m ..read more

So this is a bit random…I wrote this post ages ago but never got round to finishing it. I totally forgot about it but then I was going through all the half-finished posts sitting in my drafts folder and realised this one was pretty much done! No idea why I didn’t post it before now, so I reckon what the hell. Just post it. So here it is! This post follows on from my post on Nashville, which ended with my friend Cassie and I leaving Crema and jumping into our car and heading for Memphis. After a few fun-filled hours driving across Tennessee, singing Motown classics at the tops of our voices, s ..read more

MY FAVE NEW RESTAURANTS IN GLASGOW

Its been a while since I blogged on here. Mainly due to lack of time. As well as my full time job, my friend Julija and I have set up a social media and photography agency…Creative Parrot. Two jobs and a heap of personal stuff has left me very little time for blogging. I’ve still been eating out of course (that will never stop!) and instagramming, but actual blogging has taken a bit of a back seat these last few months. I do miss it though. I love writing and I enjoy putting posts together so I’m going to try and make more room for it in my life. We also have a blog on Creative Parrot so I gue ..read more

On a cold, winters day there is really nothing better than a warm and comforting bowl of perfectly cooked pasta, served with a smile, and luckily for Glaswegians, that is exactly what is on offer at Eusebi Deli in Glasgow’s West End. Situated just off Kelvingrove Park on Gibson Street, it is the perfect place to have a couple of small plates of good food, a full-on feast, a quick coffee and cake, or pick up something special to make at home. Eusebi’s is a family-run Italian deli and restaurant offering a handpicked selection of authentic Italian produce, including a range of ho ..read more

We have just one week until Christmas and the shops and markets are bursting with people scrambling to get their last minute gifts and making sure they don’t run low on food and drink! I have personally been scaling the shops of Glasgow trying to get my hands on a couple of bottles of Winter Pimms which always gets me in the holiday mood. After a lot of searching and tweeting, I eventually found out that one Waitrose in Glasgow was selling it so I finally got my bottles. Phew! Thank God for Waitrose. (I have since found out you can buy it on the Pimms website). Another Christmas-must is of co ..read more

How on earth is it December already?? First the leaves started changing colour and we hit Autumn, suddenly the clocks changed, Halloween came and went, then it was Bonfire Night and boom…November disappeared and here we are in December! It seems to come around quicker every year and yet every year I fail to be prepared for it. However, on the 1st December I am in full-on Christmas mode… http://aspoonfulofsugarblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/giphy.mp4   I have started looking for presents for friends and family but instead, I have found loads of things I would love to get my hands on ..read more

I can’t stop eating at the moment. I think its the change in weather. Well…I say a change, in Scotland we live in a permanent state of grey skies and rain. We didn’t get a summer so maybe I’m just greedy! No matter the reason behind it, I just need to reign in the non-stop eating! Actually no, I don’t need to stop eating, I just need to stop eating so much crap. So I have been trying out different recipes for snacks I can nibble on that will fill me up, and won’t give me that sugar high, and resulting crash which ends up with me stuffing my face with brownies and crisps! I have played about w ..read more

CRINKLE CHOC CHIP COOKIES
A Spoonful Of Sugar

I came across an article titled An Internet-Famous Cookie Worthy of Baking in Real Life in the New York Times recently, detailing the popularity of a crinkle chocolate chip cookie, originating from the super talented Sarah Kieffer…author of the very beautiful The Vanilla Bean Blog. Photo: Peter DaSilva | www.dasilvaphoto.com Sarah’s unique ‘trick’ with these cookies is to bang the baking sheet a few times throughout the baking process, mainly after the cookies have risen a little in the oven. This banging motion causes the cookies to ‘fall’, and the repetition creates a rippled eff ..read more
