Another day, another world-class product designed and made here in Gods Own.  This time, it’s an update from the guys at ODDTHING. And the first new product is anything but odd – it’s a super practical, simple-but-genius work station. The Work Station’s MO is giving you better organisation and added comfort while you work. – The monitor stand elevates your screen to a better viewing height (posture, people) and the separate large and small under-tray helps you look sharp fix up, fitting underneath the monitor stand and giving you one tidy spot to keep loose papers, statio ..read more

The intersection of useful AND beautiful – thaaaaat’s the spot. Hitting that mark perfectly is New Zealand designer Melissa Brooks and her brand, I’ll Hang It Here. Since I first shared IHIH’s contemporary clothing racks a couple of years ago, Melissa has expanded the collection with several new styles.  But more recently – and the reason for my post today – IHIH has launched a whole new product line: IHIH Store. IHIH Store is a collection of hanging and display solutions originally designed for retail stores, but handily also perfect for an organised home ..read more

Chalk up another one for New Zealand being at the forefront of Good Design – that being: design that not only looks good, but also does good – for people and planet. Dining tables used to just be for dining – somewhere you’d sit for maybe 30 minutes, a couple times a day. But increasingly, the dining table has become a place we spend hours at a time – it’s a makeshift office, it’s a homework station, it’s the place we stretch out a lazy Saturday morning with a second coffee, or debrief the day’s events over wine. Despite the evolution in the way we use modern dining chairs, they’ve never ..read more

Styling Alice Lines, Photography Melanie Jenkins Being at the leading edge of interiors and design in New Zealand, homestyle magazine just know what homeowners here want and need. And their taste level… well, it’s *chef’s kiss* – always managing to sit in that Venn diagram overlap where timeless meets of-the-moment. The ∩ of interiors, you might say. Beyond the pages of the (boutique, independently-published) magazine itself, homestyle also functions as a creative studio – offering consulting, design and styling. They’ve produce imagery and stories for local ..read more

It’s a rare and elusive BPB! Bedroom patio bath! Gorgeous work by Eliza Blair. When anxiety and uncertainty besets me, one thing that always calms my nerves is a teeny weeny Scandinavian apartment It’s the interesting mix of organic natural textures with industrial styling that makes this Devol kitchen a big winner in my book. Australian artist Prudence Oliveri bought her childhood home and renovated it, filling it with her exuberant works. I especially love what she did with the layout and design of the kitchen, above. That blue is such a happy, fresh colour, and ..read more

Office meets dressing room: love this configuration Styling Pella Hedeby, Photography Erik Lefvander Incredibly restful and warm all-timber home by architects Lowen Widman.  I can see myself here writing a book (or just reading lots of them), looking out to the spruce and pine forest that surrounds this home. Fave detail: how they’ve used darker timber for all the window framing, did you spot that? Love how the blue finger tiles here pick up the blue in the marble. Master bathroom from the same home, designed by Eliza Blair Architecture Photography Shannon McGrath ..read more

One of my all-time fave interior designers, Avenue Design Studio, have posted a deliciously detailed tour of their new offices. DREAM. A heritage building flooded with natural light, with oak parquet floors and huge sash windows (DREAM), a custom travertine table, a rotating collection of art and objects curated for in-progress projects, and all the tools and textures designer Holly Marder needs to dream up her next beautiful space. If moodboards and material palettes are your thing (did we just become best friends?) head here for loads more lovely imagery. Speaking of Avenue Design Studi ..read more

Photography by Jono Parker Good Design (caps intended) has style, substance and sustainability. Style, because aesthetics are important, and we all deserve to have more beauty in our lives. (Plus, when something is pleasing to look at and hold, we also tend to better respect it, take care of it, and be more present for our enjoyment of it, if that makes sense). Next, substance. For something to be well-designed, it should be perfectly fit for purpose. Useful, effective. Life-enhancing in some way. The last part is sustainability. For me, in the context of design, sustainabi ..read more
